Sarabande (Not)

The final piece from my 10-movement chamber cycle "Hexagons." "Janusian" is scored for soprano saxophone, viola, bass clarinet, piano, chimes, timpani, and prayer bowls. The movements of "Hexagons" are numbered in reverse order, since the numbering corresponds with the sefiroth from the Tree of Life in the metaphysical system of Qabalah, and thus the journey from 10 to 1 represents a climbing of the Tree, beginning at Malkuth ("Kingdom," Earth) and finishing at Kether ("Crown," Godhead). Performed at my dissertation recital on April 7, 2017 in Ramsey Hall at The University of Georgia, Athens, GA. Featuring Caroline Halleck (soprano saxophone), Elitsa Atanasova (viola), Pedro Alliprandini (bass clarinet), Greg Hankins (piano), Scott Davis (prayer bowls), Taylor Lents (chimes), and Emily Johnson (timpani). Conducted by Shawna Pennock.

Nowadays I'm a classical composer, experimenting with unusual modes, Just Intonation, free improvisation, electronic composition, unusual instruments, and so on. I run the gamut from the fairly conventional to the seriously weird, but hey, its all music. I also do more contemporary jazz/rock, particularly when I play out. Please listen and enjoy!
