Internationally acclaimed DJ, producer, radio host, and label owner Darin Epsilon is often referred to as a leader of the underground dance music scene. His Perspectives radio show and podcast reaches tens of thousands of listeners every month. He launched his Perspectives Digital record label in November 2010 as an extension of the brand, further solidifying his influence and presence within the global dance community. In 2016 he was nominated for ‘Best Progressive House Artist’ in the annual Beatport Awards, and in 2011, John Digweed named him one of the winners in his DJ Competition sponsored by Bedrock and Ableton Live.

To date, Darin has released music on many of the industry's most respected labels including Sudbeat, Global Underground, Renaissance, Hope Recordings, microCastle, Selador, and Perfecto Records. His productions have entered Beatport's Top 100 charts numerous times and are featured in the compilations of Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Paul Oakenfold, and Max Graham. He has collaborated with Hernan Cattaneo, Robert Babicz, Betoko, John Graham aka Quivver, Matt Lange, Matthew Dekay, Cid Inc, Omid 16B (S.O.S.), and Chris Fortier, among countless others.

As a gifted student of music from an early age, former record shop employee, and former director of a college radio station, Darin draws inspiration from his nearly encyclopedic knowledge and genuine appreciation of electronic music. He cites a variety of important influences in the past decade, from the early Leftfield and Future Sound of London albums, to the iconic Global Underground compilation series, to the sweeping sounds of Paul Oakenfold circa 1999, to Sasha & Digweed's mind-blowing Delta Heavy tour in 2002.

If you have ever been in the audience to catch one of his live sets, it becomes immediately apparent that he is proficiently skilled as a DJ as well. His frequent flyer miles are continually on the rise with regular tours around the world. He has electrified audiences across the United States, as well as headlined dozens of countries across 6 continents.

Over the years, he has shared the spotlight with many of dance music's superstars including Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, John Digweed, Sasha, James Zabiela, Armin van Buuren B2B Markus Schulz, Above & Beyond, BT, and countless others. He has headlined over 7 major festivals by North America’s biggest promoter, Insomniac Events, and been invited to perform at Amsterdam Dance Event, Ultra Music Festival, Burning Man, BPM Festival, and South By Southwest (SXSW).

With hard work, passion, pure dedication to his art, and support from the industry's most revered names, this Chicago native turned LA transplant aims to prove that this is only the beginning to a long and promising career.

On the “Can’t hold it” EP, the guys showcase their love for lush disco, analogue basslines and leftfield musicians, bringing in NYC native Willie Burns for a remix that shows you the darkest side of Heist yet.
The title track and EP opener should feel like a warm welcome to those who enjoyed last year’s “Howsmusic” so much: warm subs, galloping hi-hats and an exotic synth loop that’ll get stuck in your head for hours and hours.
“Just not Norma” goes on in a similar manner, this time built around a few simple but effective keys chops and the lovely solo work of Mark de Clive-Lowe, adding a dash of emotional P-funk to the groove.
The B-side takes a jump into more electronic territory with both versions of “Tamarindus hollandicus”. The original evolves around a bell- like percussion loop and a roaring Moog bass, with synth, strings and piano loops exchanging their spot on center stage. Willie Burns gets all dark and trippy on his excursion into electro territory. Machinegun-like claps and haunting strings accompany the breakbeat-not-breakbeat and ruthless bassline to give the EP a thrilling finale.
These 4 tracks show you a wide variation of dancefloor moods and hopefully will make you fist pump, strip, get down, jump, scream or do whatever it is you do when you’re releasing your energy at a party.

Heist Podcast #15 - Detroit Swindle

Introducing a group you might perhaps not be aware of. Balmorhea are a six piece instrumental group from Texas founded by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller in 2006. Across the years they have released a diverse array of sonic experimentations which fuses an assortment of genres in a kaleidoscopic blend of style and artistic grace. Their sound is defiant of niche, space or time and could perhaps be best described as an array of textures and graceful leads. 

The result of asking a band, group, duo or an individual from within to contribute to our mix series has seen interesting results across the years. Bands and musical projects tend to approach the task in a different manner to that of a dj or strictly electronic artist. Michael Muller selects tracks from Brian Eno, Grouper, Domenique Dumont and more.

Balmorhea: The 'Monday Is Okay' Mix

If you are a dedicated electronic music fan, there really is no need to give you too much of an introduction into the world of 16 Bit Lolitas. For those that are uninitiated, welcome to a whole new world. 

The Dutch duo of Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek have been around since the early 00's, releasing the sort of productions which always reserved space in many revered DJ bags. They received worldwide recognition with tracks like ‘Murder Weapon’, ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, ‘Sedna’ and remixes for the likes of Sander Kleinenberg and Armin van Buuren.

Where many early-00's prog producers faded away, 16BL endured its heyday to stay as relevant today as they were a decade ago. Lately, the 16 Bit Lolitas have been focusing some of that energy into their side project, Cubicolor; a project with Tim Digby-Bell which of late has been gaining some serious momentum, even seeing them receive some attention outside of the club scene (they 'are currently working hard on the new Cubicolor album').

For their Balance excursion the Dutch boys have kept to form with a beautifully crafted selection of tracks and remixes from artists like Patrice Baumel, Trikk, Audiofly, Adriatique and more. And needless to say, 16BL have delivered a masterful mix.
