i got to travel a lot in north africa in the last years thru touring with blitz the ambassador and the studio session with oddisee for sawtuha in tunisia. while being there i did some digging and found some incredible music from the 60s and 70s. some of the music in this mix has zero info on the net, was never sold on ebay and has not been "rediscovered" yet. others are somewhat classics in the field of „arabic groove“. the music in this mix comes from morocco, libya, eggpt, algeria, lebanon and syria.

This is one of the very first tracks I've made with my new laptop. I came up with this one in a couple of hours, starting with the beat, and building from there. This tune hasn't been mixed or mastered, just kind of a demo version I guess. I hope you all enjoy it, and I'll be putting up more soon!

Who Erhu You?

This is an unmastered demo track of my song "Haimei." I wrote this track back in 2007-2008, and for this current recording, I actually dug up an old recording I had done on a (now) dinosaur of a digital workstation. I recorded the song back then by singing and playing simultaneously (with no metronome), into a condenser mic, with the guitar DI'd separately. Then I went back, added a separate vocal track (which I've scrapped now), the banjo, and two violin tracks.  For this recording, I transferred the original tracks via analog input, added two erhu tracks to complement the violin tracks, added bass and piano, and tried to clean up the original audio. If it still sounds a little gritty and amateur... that's because it is! But I like it this way, and I think it captures the essence of the emotions I was feeling when I originally wrote it. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy it!

Haimei

Well, this one has been a long time coming, but it's finally ready! 

I wrote this one back in 2007 or 2008, and though I've tried to record it before, it never came out quite right. Now, I finally feel like I've got a good recording of this song, and I think I'll go out on a limb and say that this is the recording I'm most proud of to date.

A big thank you to my brother Scoot Bihorel for providing the (unexpectedly monastic-sounding) harmonies and for playing the cajon. 

I hope you'll all enjoy this one; I certainly enjoyed creating it! :)
