TM8 Q: What song describes your summer??
A: "DJ Richard - Waiting for the Green Flash. DJ Richard (@ioiooioooiooioi) is a Providence-based legend and one of the founders of White Materials records. I love his 2015 record Savage Coast, whose sounds and album art are inspired by Rhode Island’s rugged coastline. I spent a lot of time outdoors paddling and exploring on the water this summer, so I thought this tune was fitting."

Providence-based DJ and producer Emma Rak shares a multi-sensory mix for us, layered with rolling kickdrums, gauzy melodies and textured bass motifs. Blending techno, freetek, DnB, and many more genres across her sets and productions, Emma is a resident DJ on Hong Kong Community Radio and has released music on labels like @fluxcollective, @v23be, and @ninety-three-collective. Emma also runs anti-alias (@anti-alias-recs), a party series oriented around leftfield techno, embedded in Providence’s coastal, post-industrial landscape and its rich history of noise and DIY music.

Isagore - Restless Whispers

tm8.club’s fourth VA brings together *FLINTA artists exploring the deeper, more emotive corners of the club spectrum, creating a richly layered compilation from the first beat.

On this release, each artist delivers an engaging and evocative track, from introspective wormholes to potent post-midnight moments, resulting in a nuanced and sonically textured body of work. 

KØLT co-founder AYIM opens the V/A with a cerebral touch on ‘Tier’, built by  a sparse soundscape and layered with a tenebrous lead and gauzy grooves. It’s followed by So_N, who begins ‘NB’ on a beatless note before descending into siren-shaped frequencies and resonant basslines.

On ‘Kråkesølv’, Oslo-based artist vilde wahl evokes a bleep-ridden world led by a loopy  melody, flecked with mechanical whirrs. Simrana sprinkles staccato beats between churning rhythms and metallic riffs on ‘RealmRide’, forming a shadowy and quick-paced number. 

anti-alias founder Emma Rak melds throbbing melodies with oil-slicked drums and dubby atmospheres on ‘Kali Tragus’, produced with razor-sharp precision. xia closes the compilation on ‘Heart glitch’, stitching woody percussion between bird-like FX, culminating in a push-pull effect. It’s the kind of track that stays with you long after listening—much like the V/A itself, which embodies the label’s evolving ethos and emotional range.

Episode Description :
This mix will be exploring auditory localization and how the temporal lobes are involved to the process. The temporal lobes are crucial for auditory localization, a process that involves identifying the source of a sound. The primary auditory cortex, located in the superior temporal gyrus of the temporal lobe, receives and processes raw auditory information. More specifically, the brain uses binaural cues like differences in sound intensity (loudness) and timing (arrival time) between the two ears to locate a sound.
