We welcome taste-maker Ian DPM for #18 of our Tapes series. 

1/2 of the powerhouse label Scuffed Recordings, owner of Definite Party Material (the match to his namesake), part of the team at Lobster Theremin, and a talented producer and DJ: Ian DPM's mixes and music span from techno, electro, breaks, house and beyond with a prominent sampling style which is always vibrant and full of energy. 

Taste level is what sets Ian DPM out from the rest and his curation comes with razor-sharp precision. Intuition has had him championing music from across electronic music spheres and his label Scuffed Recordings has found a special place in the center of the UK's electronic music scene pumping out consistent releases and continuously earning its spot as one the most innovative underground labels around. 

Ian DPM excels in everything they put his mind to Tapes #18 is just another clear and brilliant example of this.

Nightclubs reopened in the UK the day I recorded this mix so I put it together with peak time in mind. Without overthinking it, I reckon it's a good representation of where my ear is at the moment.

INGI returns to Scuffed Recordings with four new intricately-crafted club tracks on his Shaker EP.

Icelandic-born, London-based INGI first appeared on Scuffed in 2022 with his Fade EP, an exploration of breaks, percussion and bass weight which saw support from the likes of object blue, Surgeon, Breaka, and Manami.

Since then, INGI has honed his skills as an artist and DJ, as a co-founder of London party and label Elastics, and resident at “your favourite festival’s favourite festival” Floorless. INGI’s sound is a love letter to the London and Manchester scenes that he came up in, flitting between UK club influences but impossible to pin down to one sound alone.

Leeds based producer Krotone makes his DEXT Debut with a killer EP comprising of 4 bass heavy cuts guaranteed to test the weightiest of sound systems. Krotone has been on our radar for a while now, catching our attention with a string of excellent self-released titles, his raw gritty sound comprising elements of Dub, Techno, and UKG made a perfect fit for DEXT and we are absolutely buzzing to have him on board... DJ Polo returns to Livity Sound with an EP that moves beyond the UK funky styles he established alongside Tribal Brothers on The Link Up EP in 2021. Through his productions and steady online radio presence, the Bristol-based producer has been flying the flag for lean, punchy rhythms with a low-end focus, but on If The Glove Fits Polo has branched out to explore different tempos and sounds taking influence from gqom, techno and Afrobeats. 

Much like his approach to funky, this isn’t a set of genre exercises but more a celebration of the shared qualities which bind together dance music from different parts of the world. The result is four sharply-defined club workouts unique to DJ Polo that balance tension and release, flair and subtlety and a consistent physical weight true to Livity’s emphasis on soundsystem suitability.

After a short hiatus at the beginning of 2024, we couldn’t be more excited to return to the digital series with it's fourth addition, courtesy of Newcastle-based Lace Atone.

The vocal sample in the title track, 'Beacon', features snippets of Joe Strummer's iconic wolf-like calls and creatively incorporates his in-between interval breaths from The Clash's post-apocalyptic anthem, 'London's Calling.' With Lace sharing, “The whole 'London is drowning' still resonates and holds true today."
