Sounds like more of a underground city type, except of a cave filled of crystals, but still sounds great  👍

I picture a lot of black, dark browns and blues, with dimly glowing purples

This makes me think of some kind of techno factory stage.

Found this track I threw together one afternoon a few years back. Fixed up the mix & master a little and thought I'd post it.

Compositionally it's not the deepest (it's fairly predictable), but the instrumentation & arrangement is sorta fun. A friend said it sort of felt like an alternate special stage song.

Robotnik has turned it into a dangerous mountain base complete with traps and robots running around. However it seems he hasn't discovered the caves below. Crystal Crag Zone [Present]

Inspired by the scrapped R2 level. An ancient city set near the mountains that is said to be a secret experiment by the inhabitants of the Mircale Planet. A Land that was able to sustain biological life, in conjunction with the planet's artificial life. The conclusion was a sacred palace filled with everlasting energy and peace. Waterfalls mads of rainbows, stones made of a strange glittery material, and plant life the likes of which you've never seen. it was considered a sanctuary for all inhabitants of the planet, and was once the resting place of the time stones...however. Robotnik has placed tubes and machines all over the place, hoping to suck this energy out, and use the power for his own purposes. Can hope be restored to this place of beauty?

Miracle Maze Zone [Present]

A factory set near the setting sun. This place used to be used as a water purifier, transporting water to and from location to location. Though as time went on, the supply of clean water was outweighed by the amount of waste and pollution. So the factory was converted into a waste disposal factory, taking the waste and trying to do something healthy with it. However Robotnik wants to steal of the waste and toxins and pour them over cities,which he will use to pollute them. Make sure not to slip on any dangerous toxins, i'm not sure what will happen.

Atomic Arena Zone [Present]

Travel back in time and witness the land as it was in the days of old. There seem to be houses and buildings in the distance, and the trees and foliage take up a lot more of the mountains surface. Inside the temples you see gems that sparkle and shine a glittery gold, and the warm seething lava from before has become a warm glowing pool of water. Legend has it, that it is here were you will find the answers to the gems known as the Time Stones.

Crystal Crag Zone [Past]

Sonic lands in a huge desert plain, The wind rushing through his spines, and the air waving about. Cacti and strange fruits had been placed here and there, and puddles of clean water were sparse. Sonic had been used to warm places, but this was a-whole-other story. The air here was so calorious that the ground seemed to light up as if it were glowing, and the plants did the same. The shapes of the rocks and mountains had been the perfect size and width for Sonic to show off his trademark speed. As Sonic runs farther he sees Robotnik is trying to infiltrate a giant Pyramid like palace at the end of the desert. What could that guy be looking for in there?

Desert Dazzle Zone [Present]

Sonic's finally boarded the soaring ship. After landing, he feels...different. He can't seem to explain it, but it feels as if he was back on his home planet. "It must have something to do with the Little Planet's power", he says, "The ship is unaffected by the flow of time". Sonic decides not to waste any time and heads straight for the head of the ship hoping to find a sniveling slimy fat man waiting for him in the cockpit. Be careful, this place is no joke. It's the length of 5 ships combined, it's got weapons and traps set all over the place, it's pretty dang hot, and your really high up. I'm not sure if even Sonic could survive THAT fall. Watch your step!

Weapon Wing Zone

Sonic had come across a peculiar set of sneakers while running through the landscape. At first he ignored them, but couldn't help but admire their sleek design. What's more, they fit him perfectly! How could he say no? With the new sneakers on his soles Sonic began to run faster and faster, eventually breaking the sound barrier, but as he did this he began to spark and shocks of electricity emanated from his body. The world began to dissolve into a strange Rainbow like void. Sonic obviously confused stopped running for a second to look around, but the moment he slowed down, he had appeared in the same place...but a different time. "Hmm, the planet's magic must have done something to these sneakers! Now I can travel through time!", Sonic decided to take a look around this new place before continuing his journey.
