The French-Brazilian DJ, Music Producer, and Pianist Ella Romand was brought up in a nurturing musical environment in Brazil, where she listened to various styles, from Bossa Nova to Classical Music. Thanks to a natural ear, she began playing the piano at an early age, picking up songs from the radio before taking piano lessons. Ella's love affair with Electronic Music began in the late ‘90s, early 2000s, when she was introduced to the progressive sounds of electronic music, listening to DJs such as Sasha and John Digweed. She then started exploring music production in 2005, and later one learned how to DJ later that year.
In 2006, she moved to the United States to get a degree in Music Technology while her passion for electronic music increased. As a result, her first single "Sintaque" was released on Beatport in 2009. Originally a project for Music school, the track got the attention of the label “A Must Have” with its minimalist yet melodic sounds, using sandpaper to replace snare samples and recording other objects in search of original sounds. She has also released independently a chill-out album called Awakening under the name E-romand, with some of the tracks being remixed and released on various music platforms. Ella is also currently part of a live electronic group called Dsided, playing live keys and releasing numerous tracks. As a DJ, Ella has shared the decks with the likes of Bob Moses, YokoO, Serge Devant, Lee Burridge, Bedouin, Eli & Fur, Behrouz, Matthew Dekay and Tube & Berger to name a few.

Influenced by the sounds of Electronic Music and her background on classical piano, she plays Deep and Melodic House with a harmonious taste. Abroad, she has performed in Colombia, Mozambique, Jamaica, France and Brazil; while in the US she has performed at major festivals such as III Points and Ultra, as well as Soho Hotel (NYC), W Hotel (Atlanta), Sandwich Bar (Orlando), Serafina Hotel (Puerto Rico). In Miami, Ella has played and holds residencies at underground parties and top venues such as TreeHouse, Electric Pickle, Do Not Sit On The Furniture, Delano Hotel, Faena, No. 3 Social, Floyd, 1800 Lucky, Basement, and many others. PODCAST #036 - ELLA ROMAND (Miami) July 2020

My 4 hour set from the end of Virtual Classics this past weekend. This was my first internet live set since the mid 2000s when I was doing Chilling Moments via shoutcast weekly. With no crowd really to draw from I basically got to explore my own 4 hour journey through progressive. Starting in tech house territory it works it's way up to classics progressive house/trance and finishes off with basically about an hour of classics progressive breaks.

Was a blast to play and will likely lead to more classic live mixes from me in the not too distant future.

****Disclaimer****

A bit of a disclaimer here as I am usually an audio nazi when it comes to what things sound like but for some yet to be determined reason I experienced some serious static feedback for a little bit during this set that has made it's way onto the recording. Somewhere around 1 hour 40 minutes I began to notice this rogue static charge when I touched the mixer. I figure it comes down to me dancing around creating a charge and/or a bit of a ground issue for some reason. Weird part is it only lasts 10-15 minutes of the 4 hour mix so I'm still happy to share the mix.

Not a ton to say as this crazy year now threatens to stretch into the next. While I have found music essential to my sanity it certainly hasn't been without its unfortunate negatives. Not being able to gather with those likeminded individuals is definitely wearing pretty thin and makes you wonder whether things will ever be the same again. I still have to count myself lucky though as I'm sure this year has affected others in a much greater way. Maybe that was already too much to say....

Here to hoping this December 2020 edition of Chilling Moments can help brighten an otherwise dark day/week/month/year.

Chilling Moments December 2020

A fixture on the East Coast electronic music scene for more than two decades, Sean has earned the respect of electronic music lovers, DJs and promoters all over with his intelligent and smooth storytelling blend of organic and progressive house.

A true technical perfectionist who combines outstanding programming skills with near flawless execution all while playing to the atmosphere in which he is performing, Sean once earned himself the reputation as one of the most consistent performers in the East. His professional approach and attention to detail provided him with many memorable opportunities throughout the years having compiled a very long list of accomplishments.

Introduced to electronic music in the 80s and early 90s by musical acts like Depeche Mode and New Order it wasn't until he listened to Sasha & John Digweed's "Northern Exposure" in 1996 that his world really changed forever. Falling in love with the sound of the Global Underground, Sean was moved to share this new found love of electronic dance music with others. After an extended period of honing basic DJ skills at home he recorded and distributed his first demo to a few select Halifax promoters and was lucky enough to be given his first public performance at the now infamous Baseline Fridays @ Reflections.

Championing a sound and style that was a bit different for Halifax at the time, Sean quickly become known as one of the early pioneers of progressive house in Atlantic Canada. Holding residencies over the years with some of the most influential production companies including Massive Productions and Underdog Productions while also working the after hours scene with Kyle Kurts at various venues including Sub Rosa, Sean's reputation in the scene grew and provided him with many memorable experiences having played alongside a very long list of some of the world's biggest headliners including Armin Van Buuren, Deep Dish, Danny Howells, Luke Fair, Steve Porter, Ferry Corsten, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, Darude and Sultan to name just a few. In 2003 Sean was lucky enough to play alongside one of the DJs ultimately responsible for his musical journey, Sasha. A very special club event that continued into the wee hours of the morning at a local after hours venue where Sean & Sasha treated a small, intimate crowd to an impromptu tag set that still remains as one of Halifax's most indelible electronic music memories.

Somewhat more recently in 2011 Sean provided the winning mix in John Digweed's "Structures Two" international mix contest and was featured on Digweed's highly acclaimed radio show "Transitions". An accomplishment that even the most seasoned of international touring DJs aspires to.

While Sean's live performances have become increasingly rare in recent years, his love for the music remains unwavering and he regularly releases new mixes in his long running mix series "Chilling Moments" which initially started as a SHOUTCast live broadcast through CyberDJs.ca and is now celebrating its 20th year.

With Sean's dedication to the craft, ear for the music and storytelling ability each one of his sets is sure to be an emotional journey through sound.
