It's been a while since we properly caught up with @seanmccabe, based in Bristol, Sean is one of the UK's finest house producers, he is also behind the classy label @goodvibrationsbristol which consistently releases some of the finest Soulful house around.

His latest project is an album with Chicago songwriter and producer Harold Matthews Jr who has worked with the likes of Ron Trent, Terry Hunter, Maurice Joshua and Ron Carroll crafting songs such as “Ritual Of Love” and Barbara Tucker’s “I Get Lifted”. 

We have a full interview with Sean incoming about the project, in the meantime he put together a worship mix for us picking out some of Harold Matthews Jr's finest moments. It's an incredible mix showing the depth and breath of his work.

More about our guest:

Bristol UK’s McCabe made his name in house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds and remixing the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Evelyn Champagne King, Carolyn Harding, Blaze, and Roland Clark. Since then he’s amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired productions for labels like Local Talk, Strictly Rhythm, Vega Records, Tribe, and Quantize – plus an original solo album for Z Records.

A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘90s garage-house dubs and much more besides.

As an artist, his 2014 debut album entitled ‘It’s Time’ on Dave Lee’s Z Records displays his musical range and versatile quality production skills. 

As a DJ, he forged a reputation at the legendary Southport Weekender, where he performed regularly. Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right. Sean has also travelled the world, playing as far afield as Asia and South Africa, as well as regular appearances across Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.

As a producer, McCabe is constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions. He admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. In 2016, Sean continued his musical journey by launching ‘Good Vibrations Music’ record label – a natural evolution of his renowned Good Vibrations events in Bristol.

Sean opens up August 2024 for VADR with something that emits really positive vibes and emotion evoking selections. A very unique offering from one of our greatest- modern underground musical influences to date. We are delighted and eternally grateful for this most generous contribution.

"I always like to play a mix of styles in a set to keep it interesting and represent the different styles that I like. I selected about 50 tracks that I felt like playing, to give me options, some recently released and some forthcoming. I made up the structure as I went along based on how I felt in the moment. It starts with a blend of soulful songs and funky/jazzy grooves, then delves into deeper driving tracks to build some anticipation, like a crescendo of some sort, then relieve the tension with music that has a resolving feel to it and end with some broken beat and jazzy ear candy. I think this is typical of how I try to programme my mixes. Like a very long chord progression or song structure; set mood, build tension, resolve, home, then repeat. Renowned for their intimate and hedonistic parties including alfresco daytime events on the Prince Of Wales, Brixton’s wonderful Terrace, Deep Into Soul have continued in 2017 to bring you some of the biggest international DJ’s alongside some of the UK’s finest on the House scene. Debuts this year have included Tony Humphries, Jamie 3:26, Ashley Beedle, Afronaut, Q Narongwate, At One, and Kitty Amor.

On the festival circuit, we were honoured to have teamed up with the mighty Southport Weekender and the Liverpool Disco Festival, hosting boat parties, after parties and huge arenas, with guests including David Morales, Joey Negro, Kai Alce, Grant Nelson and Josh Milan to name but a few.

For our end of year Party we have decided to go with an all UK Line up to celebrate the talent and greatness we have right here, so get ready to dance your ass off with an insanely friendly dance crowd that appreciate some of the finest house music that the capital has to offer in an unrestrained party atmosphere. A hotly anticipated gathering to close off Deep Into Soul’s blazing year and we can’t wait to see this year out with you the Dance Floor Family..

Artist Info: 
Bristol-based producer Sean McCabe has had plenty of time to develop his own sound. Famously, he released his first tracks in 2003 at the tender age of 17 and has spent the last decade fine-tuning a trademark sound that is effortlessly soulful.

McCabe made his name in house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds and remixing the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Evelyn Champagne King, Carolyn Harding, Blaze, and Roland Clark. Since then, he’s amassed an impressive discography of nearly 100 releases, delivering inspired reworks for labels like Local Talk, Strictly Rhythm, Vega Records, Tribe, and Quantize – plus an original solo album for Z Records.

A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘90s garage-house dubs and much more besides.

Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right. Sean has also travelled the world, playing as far afield as Asia and South Africa, as well as regular appearances across Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.

As a producer, McCabe is constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions. He admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. In 2016, Sean continued his musical journey by launching ‘Good Vibrations Music’ record label – a natural evolution of his renowned Good Vibrations events in Bristol.

With a successful album under his belt, his own record label and notable collaborations with the likes of Karizma, Turbojazz, and DJ Spen, his reputation for bringing quality soulful dance music to the masses continues to rise.
