Well it’s been a long time coming but finally Critical label boss and all-round entertainer Kasra has put hand to mixing desk and delivered his first full 12” release on the imprint since it began back in 2002. Not only that but he’s done it with one of the most prolific and hot property names in the scene right now, Brazilian born S.P.Y. The result as you’d expect is pure D&B thunder! ‘Surface’ rolls out seriously from the off with a snapping two-step break accompanied by paranoid pads that drift throughout the mix as an unnerving vox drops us suddenly into this no-nonsense Friday night king of the rollers. Torpedo bass stabs rule as it marches along with full force to a deep, intense breakdown that signals the second drop into a more twisted incarnation of the b-line before. Dangerous, cavernous drum & bass from two people with their fingers firmly on the pulse. Moving on and ‘Control’ is a menace from the start with a drawn out intro that sets us up perfectly for the incoming onslaught. A heavily syncopated break leads the way much like a slice of classic Photek brought smack up to date for 2011, whilst undulating bass hits make sure this one never lets go, kicking and scrapping right to the very end. As you may know, one of our main goal at Bebup is to bring young producers out of their bedroom studio, well, Roma is the perfect example.

I first met him in the backstage of a sweaty cave in Bordeaux . He was this youthful kid telling me how he spent the last two years of his life in his room, going deep on Ableton under the influence of high THC level substances. I'm a nice person and i always tell people to send me their music, i like to check out things i guess.

At first listen i was blown away by the way he manages textures and spatialization while keeping an "easy structure", after a few mails we soon arrived to the 4 tracks that composed the No Future EP .

Those tracks fits well in nowadays musical scene, yet they have something different, interrogating, typical coming from someone that dares without caring that much about the scene.

The tittle track, No Future, is a dark, powerful trip, alternating between a violent storm of toms falling from the sky and subtle water-drop/drone melodies .

Remember Me synthesize Roma's rage, stuttering vocal claiming for recognition, rave stabs, and nervous hihat patterns build what we can call a modern club banger.

Mardon Branlo is slowly releasing the pressure sets by the first 2 tracks, like a sunny spell bringing hope, everything isn't that bad after all.

The Ep ends with 6PM, the track starts like an early 2000's pc presentation screen, see what i mean ? Hewlett Packard kinda advertisement . But, believe it or not, Roma manages to turn that into a sexy modern house track, both physical and tormented.

Pour son premier EP, le label Lyonnais Bebup braque ses projecteurs sur Roma, un jeune et talentueux producteur bordelais.
Influencé par le Hip Hop du sud des Etats unis, ce jeune homme à passé les deux dernières années de sa vie dans sa chambre, explorant les profondeurs du logiciel ableton sous l'emprise de substances fortements dosées en THC .

Sur son EP No future, il fabrique des textures complexe et peaufine chaque élément pour donner naissance a une pièce musicale tourmentée, synthétisant la complexité de son esprit.

Le morceau titre, No future, nous embarque dans un voyage sombre et mouvementé, alternant entre une violente pluie de percussions semblant tomber du ciel et de subtiles mélodies synthétiques .

Remember me est un condensé de la rage de Roma, des paroles répétés pour infiltrer le cerveau de l'auditeur, une basse lourde et une rythmique nerveuse construisent ce morceau fatal, taillé pour le club.

Mardon Branlo relache progressivement la pression établie par les 2 premiers morceaux, comme une éclaircie dans un ciel grisâtre, il apporte l'espoir d'un avenir radieux, tout n'est pas si noir dans le monde de Roma.

Cet EP se termine sur 6pm, un morceau qui au début ressemble aux présentations pour PC des années 2000, vous pensez "ennuyeux", mais, croyez le ou non, Roma réussi à transformer cela en un morceau de House moderne et sexy, à la fois physique et émotif.
