Next up to add his sounds to the ever impressive Hotflush cannon is Argentina’s Shall Ocin. He serves up The Cliff/The Mist, a two track EP that showcases his knack for infectious groove in all its glory.
The man born Nicolas Abalos has released music under a number of aliases over the last decade plus, but it is as Shall Ocin that he has had most success. Putting out music on labels like Culprit and Ellum Audio, he has established himself amongst contemporary tastemakers and here cements his reputation with a great debut on Hotflush.
Opening the account is the excellent ’The Cliff,’ a steely main room house track with grinding synths that roam and whir about above weighty bass. It’s a physical, arresting track that brims and bristles with apocalyptic fervour and will truly work crowds into a lather as it continues to build. ‘The Mist’ is much more in your face, with malfunctioning machines smeared about above metal drums. It’s a real writhing monster that twists and turns with great filter work making for the most dramatic of atmospheres.
This texturally rich, maximalist EP makes a fine new singing for the UK label and is another great entry into Ocin’s increasingly essential discography.

It was in 2014 when a mutual friend introduced me to Victor Ruiz while he was staying here in Berlin. I invited Victor to my studio where we had a fantastic session, playing our music to each other, listening to stuff we like and simply talkin and connecting. Since then, we became close friends as well as starting to work together. Victor has released two outstanding EPs on Electric Ballroom by now. This summer we met again and recorded three tracks. The result is our first joint EP, of which I am very proud. (Thomas Schumacher, November 2015)

Now that we are firmly underway into our second year, it's time to celebrate Second State's family vibes as we bring you the sophomore installment of our annual HUB release. This year we have Clint Stewart taking the helm and over the course of four collaborative tracks with The Reason Y, Michael Klein, Stephan Hinz and of course Pan-Pot, the American displays his prowess for creating powerful, emotive dance floor cuts.

Kicking things off in grand fashion, the EP starts with the alliance of Clint and the boss men Pan-Pot on a massive tune entitled "Zau!" featuring the insanely talented Portuguese percussionist, Peter Xoben, and the inimitable artist Luio Onassis who graced us with his signature artwork for this release. After a chance encounter in Berlin a year ago, Clint met up with Peter and Luio for an impromptu recording session that would later go on to become Zau! after Pan-Pot heard an early working session. With rapid fire blasts of Peter Xoben's drums laid over a captivating groove, the track grows with intensity as deep sonic blasts of low end rumbles and sharp rhythmic hooks engross the aural space.

Soon, wildly unforgettable bursts of neural jabs begin to play a game of call and response with the existing elements as lush, rising pads install a relentless tension of ecstatic proportions to absolutely demolish any dance floor scenario. Following up "Zau!" is Clint and Stephan Hinz who after last years hugely successful HUB collaboration "Shimmer" are back with another incredibly heady tune, aptly titled "Fall To Earth".

Spanning spaces somewhere between deep, euphoric and driving the guys deliver an exquisite "nail biter", testing patience only to deliver a huge pay off of lush strings, melodic bass lines and stirring melodies carried by a heaving groove perfect for those intimate moments.

Embarking into the second half of the release we see Clint team up with Michael Klein to drop what could be the heaviest and most psychedelic tune of the release. 'Artifacts' is a white knuckle ride from beginning to end. Fast paced, swirling arps, unrelenting percussive builds, malevolent jabs and truly hefty roars of bass set the stage for what can only be described as a 'Draconian' opus of epic breadth transcending time and space. Wrapping up the collaborative release is Clint's pairing with Berlin duo The Reason Y for an uplifting ride on 'Aubade Flares'.

Persistent and unyielding grooves lay the foundation as abrasive yet opulent tones partner with rich low end which continually grow before rising to a fever pitch. As the vitality gets to be almost unbearable, a wash of dreamy, intoxicated strings bring it all together into a grandiose symphony of gorgeous harmonics. As heard over the course of these four collaborative HUB tracks, the comradery of the Second State crew is organically becoming more and more solidified and that was always the plan, yet it has past all our original expectations, and we think you will agree.

When Pig&Dan decided to join forces, they began a truly prolific production schedule establishing their reputation as producers of pulsating electronic music that straddled dark house and high-energy techno, whilst creating their signature style of twisted and experimental breakdowns. Since those early days, they have created a repertoire that not many can match and have constantly been releasing their music on the most respected labels and playing at the best events worldwide.

Pig&Dan follow up to their outstanding first EP on Drumcode with ‘Chemistry’. Compromising of three tracks the mood fluctuates with each record to create a well-balanced, dynamic EP. Chemistry is a dreamy listening platform that mixes cyclic synth lines and stabs to crescendo into a late night imagination. The other two tracks are on the harder tip with their thunderous kick drums and disorientated sounds that provide a different edge to the EP with a harder, peak time sound.

After nearly a year since their sophomore album 'The Other', Pan-Pot return home to Second State with a stunning EP showcasing the duos proficiency for composing dynamic, cutting-edge Techno.
Over the span of three tracks, 'Solace' EP navigates through a trifecta of distinct styles that unquestionably bear the mark of Pan-Pot's masterstroke. Kicking it off at a breakneck pace is the title track 'Solace' with rapid fire low end and intense tones laying the bedrock for a wildly uplifting presentation of keys creating the ideal balance between opposing forces.
Up next is 'Consequence' which see the duo team up with Martin Eyerer for a newly styled trip down memory lane. By pairing key elements of the sounds of early Pan-Pot and contemporary production, the trio have succeeded in conceiving a fever inducing, big room hit.
Rounding out the EP is 'Lose Yourself' and it is by far the most grandiose of the trilogy. Lush pads and soaring sonic stairs build toward a zenith as the ceaseless chant of "lose yourself" escorts the traveller through an elated dream.
To top it all off, Pan-Pot personally enlisted the expertise of IMF's label boss, the mighty Marcel Fengler. With an astute awareness, Fengler weaves the original artifacts of ‘Lose Yourself' into a truly unique orchestration of rugged percussion and euphoric abstraction.
Although it's been a year since we last saw Pan-Pot on Second State, once you experience 'Solace', we think you'll agree, it's good to have the bosses back home.

Berlin based DJ and producer Monika Kruse joins forces with fellow techno innovators Pig&Dan to the deliver the ‘Get Me On’ EP, featuring the resounding and edgy title track.

Both veterans in the industry, Kruse and Pig&Dan have previously collaborated on quality material in the past, releasing the ‘Oblivion’ EP last year which included the standout gem ‘Satisfaction’. That tune landed on Mixmag’s top techno tracks of 2016, and the trio plan to make a bold statement with their latest collaboration.

‘Get Me On’ delivers the driving techno essence that’s ruling over dancefloors as of late, with booming bass, fluttering, melodic synth tones and chopped vocals. Kruse shared how the collaboration was a pleasure once again: “I’m always happy to spend time with my brothers in the studio because we have so much fun and it just flows. For me this is one of my most emotional production works over the past few years. Combining soul vocals with melodic techno is a pure expression of who I am as an artist.”

With a busy summer on the horizon, Kruse also announced she plans to showcase her first ever Monika Kruse & Friends party during Off Week in Barcelona on June 15.
