Jonathan Cowan is an OG of the scene Stateside, particularly in his native Florida, where he gave a certain Dave Seaman his first US residency back in 1998, and to this day remains a kingpin of that week in March when the dance music cognoscenti descend upon Miami.

With these two transatlantic amigos and like-minded souls having been (ahem) brothers in rhythm for nigh on three decades now, it was only right & proper that some of JC’s studio excursions would find their way to Selador. And so it was. The achingly beautiful ‘Alden’s Groove’ was first, debuting on our Sweet Sixteenth Showcase in 2022, and then followed by ‘Swaddles’ which graced our Seventeenth Instalment in 2023. At the time we described it as “tip top electronic headfuckery”, and some two years on, we ain’t changed our minds.

So naturally we’re pleased as proverbial punch to now unveil a brand-new double-header from JC.

‘Slater’ is first up, as clever as it is insanely catchy. It wears several 90s influences proudly on its sleeve (think ‘French Kiss’ meets Desert’s seminal ‘Moods’ and you’re part way there), while wrapping everything up in a warm 2025 blanket of sound. Listen now, thank us slater ;)

On the flipside, ‘Sawyer’ kicks off with a pure 80s Chicago bassline riding that Windy City wave, before Moroder-esque wonktastic riffage joins the fray and takes hold of the dance floor. So high indeed.

Tried and tested by both Messrs Seaman & Parry, these two meticulously crafted gems have been staples of their sets for the past few months but don’t just take our word for it, judge for yourselves.

About Max Wexem:

Max Wexem is a Russian DJ and producer whose music walks the line between the dancefloor and something far more personal. He weaves hypnotic grooves with organic textures to create spaces where rhythm and reflection live side by side. His sets and productions feel less like a performance and more like a ceremony, creating a moment of shared feeling.

He first stepped onto the scene in 2012 under the alias Mimax, experimenting with Trance and Techno. Early success followed, with releases on UMEK’s 1605 and official remixes on Anjunabeats. But after a period away from the spotlight, Max returned with a renewed sense of purpose and a different name. In 2019, Max Wexem was born.

With that rebirth came a shift in sound. He moved into the realms of Organic and Progressive House, gravitating towards deeper, more emotive frequencies. His music is marked by dense basslines, intricate grooves, and layered atmospheres. Ethnic vocals, haunting samples, and cinematic details often find their way into his work, giving each track its own spiritual fingerprint.

“My music is emotion you can’t put into words. A universe where souls connect,” he says. This is the lens through which Max approaches every track he makes. He’s fuelled by faith, family, and a belief that music should speak to hearts, not algorithms. For him, each piece is more than a tune. It’s a story, a journey, a moment of truth.

Max Wexem's work has found a home on some of the most respected labels in the scene, including Amulanga, Songuara, Songuara Tales, WARPP, Blessed Music, 90Watts, Freegrant Music, Where The Shadow Ends, Magic Tribe Music, SkyTop, Stellar Fountain, and Highway Records.

His focus is on the craft. Letting the music speak. No gimmicks. Just sound with substance.

Having previously unleashed two epic versions of The Call in Andrews original full vocal and instrumental versions, three more interpretations here complete a hard hitting five-star collection. Jim Rivers, veteran of Bedrock and Renaissance and more recently heard killing it on Poker Flat, takes the road more dubby, with snatches of Andres vocal teased in and around an altogether tougher re-rub that will undoubtedly find favour in the darker recesses of discerning dancefloors far and wide, as it builds towards its epic crescendo.
