First of the eclectic hardcore/jungle sample-spotter mix series.
It's a selection spanning multiple genres from the 60's to the 90's, the common thread being - as ever - that each track was sampled by the hardcore/rave/jungle/DnB scenes - some have just one signature sample, others have been rinsed. Some of these records are incredibly obscure, dug up with help from the RolldaBeats and WhoSampled camps - others are long-standing personal favourites of mine.
This time I've included a few cheeky set-pieces based around reconstructions of hardcore/jungle tracks, or at least paying tribute to them, so keep an eye out for D'Cruze's Bass Go Boom, 4 Hero's darkside classics Journey From The Light and The Element; a trio of Foul Play samples, a cut-up reconstruction of Leviticus' The Burial, a 115bpm tribute to DJ Hype's Tiger Style, and plenty more besides. I can assure you that no jungle records were harmed in the making of this mix, original sources only. And they are so good. As ever - hope you enjoy.

Eclectic Samples Mix Part I - 25/11/2016

A second journey into the more esoteric sample roots of breakbeat culture. Like the first mix it's an anything-goes, multi-genre mash-up with reconstructions, set-pieces and references to numerous hardcore, jungle and DnB tunes from back in the day. Had loads of fun sourcing the tracks and piecing them together; once again I've pushed the boundary of my own sanity during the construction, but hopefully it was worth it.

Eclectic Samples Mix Part IV - 07/05/2017

This mix is essentially Techno for the Junglist Sample-Spotters, but also a vague history of techno – from Kraftwerk, through Detroit and Acid house, into Sheffield Bleep and Euro Techno of the early 90s (the era I grew up with), with bits of ambient, house, rave and hardcore thrown in. Interspersed with plenty of random tracks, break loops and samples to enrich the experience, and loads of reconstructions and references to classic hardcore and jungle (SL2, The Untouchables, Nebula 2, DJ Mayhem, Peshay, Intense, D.O.P.E. and Nasty Habits among others).

The final mix of samples used in jungle/D&B, 1994-1996, or thereabouts.

Over 200 tracks from a smorgasbord of eclectic sources including soul, funk/breaks, new romantic, electro, cheesy 80s pop acapellas, a hint of ragga, Chinese ambient classical folk, film samples, new age weirdness and, oh my, a veritable fuckload of hip-hop. Most of this flipped and reconfigured into an extended sample trip scattered with VIP reinterpretations of your favourite jungle hits :D

With hardcore and early jungle covered in mixes 5 & 6, this is a fitting way to end the series. 
It’s a really special era to me, the best of times. Back in 1995 we were hitting the dancefloors hard; Ruffneck Ting mixtapes and the Full Cycle radio shows were fuelling our vinyl addiction, and the variety of fresh music out there was incredible. A whole spectrum of breakbeat music from ragga and rare groove-infused jungle to atmospheric DnB, the Reinforced/Metalheadz sound and early techstep through to hip-hop flavoured jump-up and the 'pure rollers' era… and if you ask me, it never sounded better than when all mixed up together. My most cherished sets to this day are those Randall ones (who else?) where you’d hear a Photek dub in the mix with the latest Formation smasher - contrasting, complementary styles. I’ve tried to keep this diversity in mind here, albeit with the music retold in the form of samples and with the tempos running all over the place, but hopefully it still comes across. It fucking well better had cos I’ve easily spent a couple of hundred hours on this bad boy :0

Home of my own mixes - predominantly jungle/hardcore with the odd bit of D&B, plus eclectic sample-digging, breaks and hip-hop, techno & electronica. 

Pre-2001, all mixes vinyl; Post-2016, all mixes digital (DJay 2); Post-2018, Ableton Live. Why? Why not?
I've got an old skool DJ's mentality, early influences ranging from Sublove, Ratty, Randall & Hype to Coldcut, DJ Juice, MK & Primo.  In the early 00s I turned my back on D&B, retired my turntables in favour of family/work commitments, and got into funk, soul, reggae and so on... a lot of this driven by curiosity around the sample roots of hardcore and jungle.  Forward another decade and an early mid-life crisis saw me messing around with virtual decks on my phone, and later acquiring a vinyl ripper, with one vision in mind: making mixes.
Although I'm partial to the odd DJay or vinyl mix when I get the chance, the progression into Ableton Live was a simple means to an end.  My ideas stretch further than the limitations of my physical collection and real-time mixing, and by sequencing I can pick, choose, chip away and structure mixes at my leisure. Which I do... a lot :)

Wait, there's more ... an absolute stack of classic golden era/old skool hip-hop/turntablism, jungle and d&b, hardcore, techno and house mixes retrieved from my dusty tape & CD archives.  This includes (by my reckoning) the most exhaustive collections of classic Full Cycle and Sublove Galaxy Radio shows, live Ruffneck Ting jungle tapes, loads of studio & compilation mixes, all manner of rave tapes, and so on.
