Confidential Recipe returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects with four deep and tracky techno cuts.

Following his ‘What You Think EP’ in March this year, Cuyi Siu aka Confidential Recipe returns to Rekids Special Projects with ‘Hold That Jack EP’, turning in another set of fiercely no-nonsense techno cuts inspired by his formative years of clubbing in Venezuela.

“With this release, I want to show a different side of my vision for dance music, a tribute to the classic jacking minimal sound and Detroit techno that has influenced me since I started going to parties in my hometown, Maracaibo” - Confidential Recipe.

Leading the release, title track ‘Hold That Jack’ sees swaying synths, shuffling drums, and hyped vocal samples interplay for a seriously heavy techno cut, before ‘Senso’ adopts a more stripped back approach, injecting energetic drums, subtly evolving bleeps, and sliced samples for a heads-down trip. ‘Toolkit 2’ follows with chunky percussive hits rattling around a broken synth line destined for cavernous warehouses. Final track ‘Starter’ ups the tempo with heavy low-end and skipping hi-hats for a powerful and decisive end to the EP.

Radio Slave returns to his Rekids imprint with the perfectly balanced ‘Acid Dip’ single.

The titular track on ‘Acid Dip’ sees Matt ‘Radio Slave’ Edwards in particularly strident form. Riding a broken, stuttered-kick rhythm, ‘Acid Dip’ is a jabbing, insistent slice of UK techno shot through with hardcore and, whilst not skimping on raw power, still maintains the hypnotic nature that inhabits much of Edwards’ work. 

On the flip, ‘Armani’ takes off down a dubbed-out, futuristic Italo infused house workout that, throughout its eleven minutes 28 second span, shows a more dense, layered side to Radio Slave production.

As he fast approaches a 10th out on this label, Linear B continues to establish himself at the cutting edge of the electronic scene. Stuffed with detail and built on heavy grooves, these four newest cuts continue in that tradition. 'The Emerald Isle' is where Linear B was born but has been UK-based since two years of age. The track features him singing in German and puts a twist on JFK’s famous speech over drilling bass and industrial techno drums. It is brilliantly dark and unsettling, and perfect for vast warehouses.

CMD aka Corina MacDonald is a Montreal-based DJ, producer and host of the program Modular Systems on CKUT 90.3 FM. She has released on JACKTONE, EXPERIMENTAL HOUSEWIFE’S PERFECT LOCATION RECORDS, FUR TRADE RECORDINGS, and BASIC_SOUNDS. For her vinyl debut, “Social Factory Reset”, she brings us four entrancing, slightly dubby and acidic techno dance floor cuts perfect for the smooth edges of the late night.

The A-side opens up with the title track “Social Factory Reset”, modular jacking techno with an infectious acid swell and patient pads. “Shaping Inner Space” is an apt title. The tempo is slightly faster than A1, and it sounds like an extraterrestrial night out. Euphoric synth twists bring in the break while the bass drum toys with the rhythm only to zap it back home with the force of cosmic gravity.

“Dream-Life Cycles” opens up the B-side tough, with an acid line and bass drum syncopation sure to bring out the stomp. Modular tweets fire off in stereo; lush pads bring in the harmony; and a nuanced and pleasantly surprising vocal line brings the euphoria on home. “Body Locked” closes the EP with an athletic, cosmic techno track that doesn’t shy away from the trance palette. Step out of your body and onto the dance floor!

Uncertain returns to Rekids Special Projects with the ‘Abstract’ EP this December.

Closing out Rekids Special Projects’ 2023, Mind Medizin and Uncage artist Uncertain returns to the label with the ‘Abstract’ EP following up his 2022 ‘Escape’ release. Kicking things oﬀ, ‘Alert’ does what it says on the tin via alarming stab sequences, relentless ride-cymbals and scattered vocal snippets. In this EP, Uncertain draws from the early days of Chicago house, disco, and freestyle, making the machines sing in title track ‘Abstract’ via squelchy soundscapes over a steady techno rhythm.

‘Faze’ then sees Uncertain infuse organic drums with funky stabs while frenetic hi-hats swing above before ‘Access’ closes out the release with more mind-warping groove locked onto alien bleeps. This is another stellar oﬀering on Radio Slave’s essential house & techno sublabel, coming from an artist frequently supported by the likes of Noncom.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.
