"Grand Plans was set up to be a home primarily for my own output, and the intention was always that it would be reflective of wherever I was musically at any given point, whether that be jazzy house, deep emotional vibes, vocal collaborations or more club-focused records. The quality and legacy of the releases are of the utmost importance to me, so that's something I'll never compromise on, whatever the style, and with my growth and evolution over the past several years, now is the right time to broaden the scope of the label to better represent where I am as an artist. I hope you'll come along for the ride.

This EP was conceptualised at the Soul Fusion parties I've played at and inspired by the friends I've made and the times I've had because of it. It's one of the best parties and crowds out there right now. The idea was to create three tracks that I could hear being played and represent the sound of Soul Fusion, spanning the spectrum of garage, bumpy, broken, soulful and gospel vibes, all woven together in that unique UK way.

As you may have guessed, 'Trouble's House' is dedicated to the late, great Paul' Trouble' Anderson and I wanted to add a few words about that. Paul had a significant influence on me with his energy, musical vibe, and showmanship behind the decks. His early Kiss FM shows (if you can find them online) are still essential listening. I was lucky enough to meet him and share brief conversations on a couple of occasions out and about in clubland many years ago, and I'm eternally grateful for that. 

It's my humble tribute to a trailblazer, tastemaker and true house music great. Hopefully, it's a record he would have liked and maybe even played. As a DJ known for impeccable selection, that would have been quite the achievement. Thank you for everything. PTA Forever."

Shaka's new drop on Selections is a delightful one that combines real jazz melodies with authentic deep house. Opener 'Sacred Church' (feat Eve - main mix) immediately wins you over with the buys keys, Rhodes chords and eco-system of cosmic synths that busy about while the soulful vocal oozes cool. Jon Cutler's Distant Music mix pairs things back and makes it more of a smoky late night sound and 'Shaker Games' then blisses you out with dusty drum depths and incidental chords that are magically feel good. 'Get Me Higher' shuts down with some superb US house vibes.

Sascha Ciminiera is a familiar face from Footjob, member of the label's own Supergroup "Pallaspeople" and also famous for his tasty Bolognese sauce. With "Lights" he created a dreamy balearic tune that found its way into Gerd Janson’s Groove Podcast. As a consequence, Janson and his partner in crime Phillip Lauer AKA Tuff City Kids played around with the 808 and turned it to a great dancefloor version. Phonk D completed the jubilee release with a classic House rework and on top, the Tuff City Kids Remix is added as a dub version.

Patrice Rushen – Never Gonna Give You Up (Joey Negro Re-Grooved Mix)
I procured the multi for this killer dance cut from Patrice’s “Posh” album over 5 years ago and completed the remix a while back but we couldn’t clear it for RWL 2 due to the rights to her music being in limbo while it was sold by Warner Brothers to German indie !K7. This is one of the more radical remixes on the album. In all other cases I base the new version around the original music, sometimes adding extra riffs or replaying bass or guitar. I tried that approach on “Never…” but it just wasn’t happening. I went back to it a few times but I didn’t seem to be able to come up with anything particularly interesting so I decided to go a different direction and attempt to change the music next time I had Kaidi Tatham in the studio playing keys. He did a great job with a groove that is a little like her classic “Number One” and though the chords are different we managed to make most of the original strings and brass work with them.
