I discovered Ikeaboy in 2018, featuring his tracks on my Facebook page, Selections with Eva. Though life and procrastination meant sporadic chats, we stayed in touch. As I prepared to relaunch all my project this year, Damian was the first artist I thought of. He kindly shared 15 incredible unreleased tracks, two of which I’m thrilled to feature here on SoundCloud and YouTube.

Damian explains, ''This track has undergone several mix updates, though the core song has remained unchanged. Most of the percussion comes from a well-worn Zoom sampler called the SampleTrack, which adds a pleasing sense of degradation to the sound. The string progression features microtonal tuning, creating a vibe that teeters between unsettling and epic. I became obsessed with turning it into a functional track. To me, it evokes the spirit of early '90s experimental trance music, with its unconventional element choices—like early '90s trance colliding with the imagery of a massive, rusting oil tanker abandoned on a desolate beach.''

Since 1999, Damian has crafted hardware-based techno and electro, releasing on Dublin’s iconic D1 label (and others) and experimenting with darker sounds on Invisibleagent. His music has been hailed as “more bounce than a pogo stick” (The Wire) and “a deep cover curio of oddball techno” (Juno).

He has also collaborated on glitch and electro-acoustic projects, performed at global festivals, and has been teaching music production since 2008. 

His sound is raw, bold, dope, and utterly unique.

Damian explains, ''This track is built around some textured noise as a riff and something that barely qualifies as melody played on a contrastingly smooth soft sound. I kept the percussion mostly propulsive with a foley noise I created adding more texture. I often think of my tracks as either describing machines or places, this is somewhere in between, maybe a machine exploring a space. The other sounds in the track are like encounters on the landscape of this ‘place’. The big, oversized chord drop is meant to feel like a sudden beam of light breaking through or a corner turned to where a huge vista can be seen''

Noise Tilt

Some tracks just stick with you — and Paul Walter has a knack for making them.

In 2019, I moved to Mannheim briefly and quickly immersed myself in its rich underground scene. One night, deep in the depths of an after-hours at the legendary Boeck, a hypnotic 12-minute minimal gem stopped me in my tracks. As Sedee played to a dedicated few, an unreleased masterpiece filled the room. It was so damn soothing for that early morning. I moved closer to the deck, poured another gin tonic for courage, and asked Dave for the track ID. It was an unreleased Paul Walter track, a producer I didn't know back then.

The track finally saw the light of day in 2023, released on the Austrian label Do Easy Records.
