1)     Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

I’ve started collecting records fifteen years ago and, with the passing years, as my addiction to buying records grew, my collection got bigger, counting now about 1500 singles/LPs and somewhere between 500 and 1000  45/7's. Although in the beginning I bought only hip-hop albums and singles and a few funk and jazz records for the breaks, now I collect old (and newly made) organic music from different parts of the world; I suppose it’s my way of discovering various cultures. 
 
2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

Of course. I like it because it’s very DJ friendly: eighty 12’’ records weigh a lot more than the same amount of 45/7 records. Plus, these records usually have one song per side which makes them very easy to sort through.
 
3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

Well, all I can say is that I threw in mostly old rhythm & blues songs, infused with an exotic/latin twist, together with some classic northern soul tunes, but also a few fresh tracks in the beginning. I like to let the songs create the story of the mix.

4) Where can people catch you / listen to your music? 

You can find me spinning records at different venues mainly in Bucharest and around the country. Together with my friends I started Vinyl, Rum, Tapas & Wine – a series of parties with the main objective to bring back vinyl as the main ingredient for social gatherings.

Turntables on the Hudson celebrates 20 years of Worldwide parties city to city, river to river with a special compilation pulling from Nickodemus' favorite songs over the past 2 decades. The compilation touches on some of the party anthems that kept the dancefoor moving from the start of the night till the last songs when the lights came on. Mo'Horizons Selektor DJ - Mix 2019 - 4

I haven't done a serious mix in a while and somehow it ended up being a blend of melancholy blues, swing and heaps of tropical courtesy of some of my favourite producers at the moment. 

The last time I did a mix I was still using vinyl so I wanted to experiment with sorting one out entirely digitally. It's not as easy as it should be...mostly just difficult keeping the quality up after having had to rerecord MP3s at altered tempos for the mixes. If any of the artists featured in the mix feel like sending me full wavs or aifs of their tunes then I'd be delighted to slot them back in at higher quality. Here's the tracklist.

Señor Griff's tropical blues mix

One of my favorite festivals in the World is the Radio Meuh Circus Festival nestled in the small ski village of Clusaz in the French Alps. It was quite an honor & excitement to play an entire night start to finish to kick off the 2019 festival with my partner in Turntables on the Hudson sound system, Nappy G on percussion. Although his drum head broke in the middle of the night, he managed to make magic & keep the rhythms flowing till the end freestyle with me on the CDJ's making beats, him rocking the broken congas & a beautiful charged up crowd keeping the energy very high! We get down anywhere anytime full of passion & heart & if you can imagine this very packed crowd sweating all up on top of each other, dancing, smiling, grinding, drinking... you get the idea of a Radio Meuh, Turntables on the Hudson, Alps, Nile, Ramblas, Danube, Ipanema, Caribbean vibes! Long time collaborator and resident DJ of the UKs longest running club funk and soul promoters, Jelly Jazz. Also exploring new style of clubbing with Rambunctious Social Club project in the southwest of Britain. Recently returned from 16 months in latin America traveling with my wife and collecting sounds as I go with a Sony PCM D50 handheld field recorder. We made a baby in Peru who was born back in England last June...a daughter! So time is short now...I'll be fitting music whenever I can. 

REQUEST FOR HELP and ADVICE:  I see Soundcloud as a fantastic learning opportunity. I'm the first to admit I'm a beginner at production. If there are any half competent producers out there that can clearly hear problems with my tunes or things that I could improve on then PLEASE do let me know. I'm not proud. It can be incredibly difficult to get good advice about sound production so I greatly appreciate constructive criticism. Bear in mind I'm mixing on headphones at the moment. Also all of my remixes are additive in that I have to take the entire original and add parts to it. I can't take anything away because I don't have access to studio track files. But any help you can give me would be appreciated.  Cheers Griff
