Dutchman Kennedy (@kennedyams) is a mainstay of Amsterdam's underground. He's worked in record shops, hosted radio shows, thrown his own parties and played the city's best venues as well as further afield at places like About Blank, Tresor and Griessmuehle in Berlin. In the studio, he aims to translate his dreams into music using an array of machines. His grooves dance in the middle ground between soul, techno, house and jazz, with nods to the atmospheres of Detroit and the rhythms of Africa. He serves them up on his own Dream Machine Recordings and most recently collaborated with Amsterdam jazz veteran Han Litz on his latest 12". It brought a fresh dimension to his always cultured music and with this week's mix, he proves that as a DJ he is no less considered in what he does. 

It is a selection of serene hi-tech soul powered by dynamic drums and overlaid with lush chord work. There is plenty of rough-edged analog jack, wonky acid and deep and dusty techno in the first half before a party breaks out with loved-up disco. A slow descent into more dark and trippy sound worlds closes down a mix that has the haziness of a half-remembered dream you wish you could return to.

Next up comes a very special set recorded live at Bassiani/Horoom’s ten year anniversary in early October. Having made common cause with the club in its infancy, longtime resident Hamatsuki (Mamuka Tskhadaia) and Morevi Records key figure Skyra (Sandro Papaskiri) are a perfect vector for the club’s vision. These two homegrown talents are legends in their own right, and well versed in their musical skill, teaming up on occasion and getting people moving to the sound of their surging beats. The community built around them and their Georgian confrères has grown exponentially since casual beginnings on the ground in Tbilisi, and the timeless mark they’ve left on the soul of the city is testament to its creative spirit. From chilled-out releases to laid back sets, the duo have an innate feeling for the other that complements and sparks surprising new ideas, downtempo house that sounds as fresh today as it did back then. For Bassiani Podcast 235, the pair flex their well-trained muscle and deliver an hour of groovy and undulating sounds, unbent rhythms for the dancing class. Tbilisi energy to the letter. This mix dates back to 1992 and is one of several that were bought directly from the Cafe’s DJ booth.  It was one of an incredible series of mixes that we collected over the course of the summer, all recorded at sunset, live from the cafe.

The mixes were each simply labeled with a number and by the end of the year we’d managed to get hold of either original or fairly decent copies of most of them.

Sadly at the time I don’t think we realised the importance or relevance these mixes would have in years to come and most are now long gone, so I’m glad this particular tape has just about stood the test of time as it was a favourite back then and just listening to the opening few tracks for the first time in over 10 years brings it all flooding back!

RA.1000 launches with Theo Parrish, live at fabric: a vanishingly rare club mix from the king of deep crates and impossible transitions.

There are DJ sets and then there are Theo sets. No matter how many times you've caught him in action, every time still feels like the first. Running hot, levels smoking, isolator working over time. You think you know dance music? Think again.

Parrish's debut on the RA Podcast is a milestone for the series, one we've sought for over 15 years. So it was only right that Theo led off our 1000th celebrations. Recorded live at fabric last December as part of RA's party with the London club for their 25th anniversary, this three-hour segment documents the crescendo of his eight-hour marathon. 

The Detroit legend doesn't release mixes often, and when he does, they're usually studio recordings: think NTS shows, his 100% Detroit edition of DJ-Kicks or classic tapes Body (1997) and Methods of Movement (2000). A capture of the Sound Signature boss on the dancefloor is hard to come by.

Sure, there's galvanising build-ups and crowd-pleasers, but laced throughout a Parrish beatdown are rarities designed to shock the system. In a business dominated by marketing, the vinyl master towers above thanks to a relentless hunger for lustrous melodies, moods and textures of all stripes, which he and he alone can fold into an inspiring and exhilarating joyride.

On RA.1000, blissful reggae precedes new wave disco; '80s R&B morphs into synthy techno; bleepy Chicago jack makes way for a poignant vocal ballad. It's Theo through and through. Once again, he proves that anything and everything is possible with the right records.

Jesper came in contact with electronic music through listening to Daft Punks – One More Time. 
It was the first single he ever bought.

From then on he build an interest in House music. Jesper started buying his own vinyl at the age of 15 in 2004. 
He soon found out why DJ'ing was his passion: he wanted to create a Unique feeling on the dancefloor! 
Sense Unique was born!

Having been into DJ'ing for 20 years, Jesper has developed his own sound. 
It could be described as infecting House with lots of Detroit, Chicago and Disco influences. 
Timeless tracks and contagious enthousiasm behind the decks have made Sense Unique a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
