Tresor Records - CAIV - 29 Apr 2024

This month’s radio show celebrates the Carhartt WIP x Tresor collaboration, highlighting the historic Berlin and Detroit techno axis, also known as 030/313.

For the show, we welcome the Hamburg-based DJ @helena-hauff, who has created a mix documenting the legacy of Tresor, both as a club and record label, and its link to the roots of techno in Detroit.

Pulsing with wild melodies and rapid kicks, the mix was recorded using all vinyl, and features classics from the likes of Drexciya, Joey Beltram, and the late Silent Servant, as well as records from nascent producers such as UFO95. As ever, the mix is accompanied by an interview with Helena Hauff, who gives insights on her relation to the Tresor club and label as well as news on future projects. Before we close out the year we wanted to bring forth this amazing remix package which includes reinterpretations of Broken Keys' standout EP 'All I'm Saying', released earlier this year, as well as the unheard track 'This Moment In Time'. Quavius (Florida) wraps his soft, silky vocals over an unheard mix of 'All I'm Saying', creating a sexy club anthem that instantly hooks and demands to be replayed. Zander One (Akron) produces a woozy, introspective version of '4-11' that is both calming and serene. Bart Rider (San Francisco) takes a minimalist approach on 'Late Nite Ride', opting for negative space within the track that gives it an entirely new feel. Josh Mace (Akron) furthers the original story of 'All I'm Saying' in a sleek and silky format fit for the dance floor.

Mala is a founder member of dubstep pioneers Digital Mystikz and the legendary dubstep night DMZ. He released some of the very first dubstep records on his DMZ label and Hatcha's Big Apple Records and was a key player on Mary Anne Hobbs seminal Dubstep Warz radio show in 2006, alongside a young Skream & Benga!

He remains as vital as ever to bass music, releasing one of 2012's best albums 'Mala in Cuba' on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings, a dubstep-meets-live-cuban-rhythms soundclash.

Sequel Sound is a recording imprint uniting forward thinking music and visually stimulating design. The roots of the label, have been 25 years in the making-- generating in the ears, brains and sweat of co-founders Josh Mace and Jeff Everett. The specific sound was just a twinkle in the bass, inspired by 80's and early 90's electronica/techno, in the trenches of underground rave parties, live concerts and art shows until 2014. Stimulated by a profusion of creative energy they have collaborated with artists from around The United States to bring experimental art inspired releases challenging today's standard of shiny dance floor hits.
