Bio - James Mpbk is the label manager and founder of UK based techno imprint Sequence Music.

James’ journey in electronic music started back in 1999 while working as a brand manager for ‘Ministry of Sound’ in London, before setting up his own club brand ‘Cargo’ in the the UK city of Sheffield. Cargo became synonymous as one of the most forward thinking events in the area, bringing together some of the biggest artists and DJs in world.

Fast forward to 2021, James now heads up sequence music, a record label that has quickly gained reputation among its peers. Attracting both established producers & emerging talent from across the globe, the label has already gained support from artists such as Tale of Us, Fideles, Øostil and many more.

Grammy nominated engineer, producer and songwriter Steven Weston was brought up in Portsmouth, learning to play the organ as a kid, but an early obsession with electronic music soon had him trading it in for a set of turntables. At 18, he left for Spain, where he became a resident DJ on the Murcia coast. 

He’s been on the move ever since, touring the world playing keyboard for the likes of Ladyhawke, Charli XCX, Mikky Ekko and UNKLE. He was also the first and lead bass player in The KLE side project Badger Kull and cut his teeth as an engineer at Metropolis and Strongroom studios in London, working many years with the bands Chronixx & Rudimental at their studio Major Toms in Hoxton.

His inaugural dance music release came in early 2021 with a remix of Catch Me When I Fall from the Ronin I mixtape, which saw great support from John Digweed. 

After launching his own imprint Blank Dust with two EPs, he went on to release on Sasha’s celebrated Last Night On Earth with ‘Liquid followed by his Anjunadeep debut March 31st with the first single from his forthcoming After the Flow EP, entitled ‘Like I Used To’, featuring vocals from British singer-songwriter Låpsley.

She started her musical path with classical piano, ventured to play in her school orchestras, and participated in various metal bands throughout her life as a guitarist. Starting in 2018 she began producing her own electronic music, initially in melodic house and techno.

Aiming at blending a visual experience with the duo's signature sound, bringing local and international guests each month, this new concept looks like a fresh and promising reality in Amsterdam's underground scene.⁠

James Mpbk, founder of UK techno label Sequence Music, began his electronic music journey in 1999 at Ministry of Sound in London. He later started the renowned club night 'Cargo' in Sheffield, known for its innovative events featuring top global artists in unique, underground spaces. Hailing from South Yorkshire, James Maplebeck (mpbk) is no stranger to the scene. The former Ministry of Sound Brand Manager made his name as resident & curator of one of Sheffield’s most forward thinking club nights ‘Cargo’, which ran in the city for over 7 years. Cargo attracted some of biggest names in electronic music such as Sasha, Kerri Chandler, Dj Sneak, Slam & Deetron, closing its doors for the final time in 2013 with Axel Bowman.

Fast forward to 2020, James now heads up his new project ‘sequence’, a global bi-weekly podcast, showcasing the best in deep melodic house & techno.  2020 will also see ‘sequence’ brought to the dance floor with a series of events - bringing together some of the most exciting artists in the world
