Floodtide (Tidal Sonification) at Trinity Buoy Wharf

Ben Cruachan is one of the highest peaks on the west coast of Scotland. In the early 1960s the 'tunnel tigers' blasted their way through the 450 million-year-old granite to hollow out a vast chamber for a new power station. Opened by Queen Elizabeth II in October 1965, Cruachan Power Station was a triumph of brute force and state-of-the-art technology.

Fusco's repertoire for a mountain fuses sound from Cruachan power station with three spoken voices: an Irish tunnel tiger, a forgotten artist, and the voice of the 450 million year-old granite itself.

Recorded inside Ben Cruachan, Scotland 15 October 2015 and originally broadcast on BBC Radio 4 at 22:15, 17 October, this work is preceded by a 2-minute introduction from Maria Fusco.

Rinse FM Podcast - Bake (Chain Reaction Tribute) - 28th July 2016

These recordings were made for Emma McNally's blog during the MIRRORCITY exhibition at The Hayward Gallery 14th October 2014 until 4th January 2015. Emma McNally posted regularly to the Southbank Centre blog using text, image and sound to explore and expand upon the themes of her work featured in the exhibition.

Invited by McNally to contribute audio to this blog, I made several recordings gathered on walks at various locations in close proximity to Emma McNally's studio situated at the West India Dock. The site of her studio and its relationship to networks of water, commerce and communication is reflected in her large-scale drawings. Using a combination of archival and contemporary documents McNally made a complex and evolving portrait of an area of the city rich in cultural, economic and military history.
