CHÂU was raised on a strange musical diet of Vietnamese classical ballads and post-war interpretations of rock and disco. In this experimental wave of the 70s-90s, artists would blend electric guitars with 16-string zithers -- nailing power chords while singing of famine and heartbreak and the endless mountains, in Vietnamese dialects. 

In his short span behind the decks, CHÂU has fielded a delicious variety of performances, highlights include an extensive tour of Burning Man 2019 on premiere Australian theme camps: Frothin' Weirdos, Priscilla Queen of the Doof, Wonky Queenslander, and Sacred Cow stages.

CHÂU lives at the doof, and has played at a little too many to remember, but his favourites are Earth Frequency, Jungle Love, Expression Sessions, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, and Elements. When he isn't running amok or behind the decks, CHÂU is the ears behind the Wonky Queenslander, and annoys Love Camp by hiding their cushions.

There is one thing we can all agree on, and that is Shady Lady brings a unique blend of soul and authenticity to the table. Her cup is filled with what has historically been described as "movement medicine" containing "Les notes qui font du bien" (The notes that feel good) with a hefty dash of eastern influenced bass, nostalgic treasures from the past and reminders of the natural world that can't help but wrap you up with a warm embrace.

Her live offerings take you on a journey…in the beginning all soft, sultry and smooth, even a little hip hop flow at times you might note but settle in for a ride because soon you’ll be picking up pace and those gentle sways from the start become a distant memory landing in funkier and frothier territory.

No two Shady Lady sets will ever be the same, each track lovingly chosen and woven for a time and a place to experience sound and space together. A music lover first and foremost relishing the opportunity to connect with fellow movers and groovers who dance to the beat of the same drum and whose hearts sing at the sound of stringssssss 🎻

The experience (often accompanied by a deeeelish tea service mid set) has been enjoyed at Earth Frequency, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Grounded Permaculture Gatherings, West End Fire Fest, SWELL Sculpture Festival, Elements, Island Vibes, Modifyre and Initiation just to name a few as well as many a Wonky Queenslander event being a dedicated resident disk jockey and pineapple counter 🍍✨

Most recently she has found herself an opening act niche setting the tone and warming up the stage for the likes of Opiuo, Jordan Dennis, Mood Swing & Chevy Bass, Father Funk, The Sponges, B'Rock'n Radley, WBBL, Rumpus, Tha Fun Police and Butterz with whispers of more collaborations and opportuniteas on the horizon 🫖
