or our fifteenth release we are pleased to introduce Selva debut’s on GLBDOM with Duffel Bags EP.
Selva is producer and occasional DJ hailing from Merida, México who produces a sample based house sound for both home and club use on his old computer.
This EP is a house incursion into the old school hip-hop subculture and sampling techniques. Jazz and soul loops and cuts vandalized with urban noise and covered in dazed out synths. Some tracks are aggressively energetic like the opener "Duffel Bags" and the East coast styled "NY1994", while others like "Electric Sheep" and "Sampled Dream" offer mellower grooves for easy listening.

@mark-hawkins is a real favourite producer round the LV offices. With a long background in electronic music you may have come across his work as Black Ops, The Spider or Marquis Hawkes. He is now back using his birthname and is just about to release a rather fantastic album via @houndstoothlbl titled 'The New Normal'. 

Covering everything from deep and throbbing electronica to radio destined deep house alongside classic house groove it's another masterclass of production from Mark.

Marcel Vogel has cultivated a reputation for smooth, consistent and infectious Detroit-influenced dance music with attitude. The Amsterdam-based polymath blends live instrumentation and samples into groove-heavy beats, releasing across many popular labels while also running two of his own and touring across continents. 

Having teamed up last year with Dutch producer and key-player Tim Jules for the raw single ‘Take Me Back’, the two return with a fresh pressing on Shall Not Fade showing off their authentic soulful sound. Each track features a different vocalist, each bringing their own skill to the fore; in the title track, Alessandre’s honey-sweet and porcelain-smooth vocal caress the playful keys for an instant earworm. ‘This is When I Leave’ strips the sound right down until only the drum, like a heartbeat, and Khadija’s wistful vocals remain, making for an intimate experience. The B-side focuses on high-intensity instrumentals put together by Vogel and Jules: a breathless funk and rhythm workout begins in ‘Why Don’t You Leave Me’ with Hector Wijnbergen’s infectious, powerful words taking centre stage. This headsy beat continues in ‘Like a Fish In The Water’, LYMA’s crooning subtly making an entrance and complemented by delicate guitar lines, building to a crescendo.

West Coast mainstay maverick Dave Aju launches his anticipated new artist imprint Elbow Grease with this timelessly sublime dance floor trip, dripping with outer-space soul and deep ocean-floor sonics. “X17”, a reference to the hypothetical particle and potential Fifth Force discovery, is equal parts warm and cold, smooth and ruff, as a raw UR-schooled electro rhythm base plows through various known musical barriers, adorned with worldly percussion hits, moving synth textures, subtle jazz motifs and vocal incantations.

As one of the last sonic transmissions put to tape at the mighty yet now-defunct Machine Limited/G-Son Studios of The Beastie Boys’ fame and legacy in Atwater Village LA, it’s fit with a solid spine via a driven TR-909, lush OB-Xa leads and PolySix pads, a serpentine SH-101 arp and tight Linn Drum layers. The generously unfolding “Main Mix” is accompanied by both a potent “Rhythm Dub” stripped back for maximum impact, and an ambient high “Viiibe” version offering a more immersive listen and alternative options for adventurous DJs to work into a mix as they feel. A fine intro to the genre-defiant, focus-on-each-piece Elbow Grease credo.

South African producer, KaySoul, shares a dreamy cut of deep house goodness which features the input of instrumentalists from all across the globe.
 
What is Blackness? EP is all about melody and groove - two things to which Johannesburg resident, KaySoul, is well accustomed. The stripped-back opener ‘That Blackness’ gets things off to a soulful start with a melody swaying gently over minimal percussion and funk-adjacent lower ends. Next up, Colombia-born, Brazil-based musician, Gustavo Martinez, steps up to offer his expertise on ‘Africanus’: a more meditative take on deep house with melancholic cries of a saxophone and maracas which lend the track a full-bodied swing. A pulsing kick drum provides the driving propulsion to ‘10 Ways’: a joyous track which drafts in French pianist, Steve Faets for melody duties. Bringing the EP to a close is the final artist to feature, fellow Johannesburg resident Kurtx, who steps in for the super cool, synth-driven ‘East Meets South’ before the hollow-sounding percussion and and looped vocals ‘Yak’ leave things on a blissful, enchanted note.
