Prep playlist for my monthly mix "9 on the 9th" / Season 6, #2 / February 2021 releases, which will be posted on March 9th.

This is still a rough, work-in-progress-version, rather than one coherent playlist... 

• Route 01 (up to track 29): Starting slow & somewhat melancholic, then moving into heavier stuff (both slow and slower) and finally getting groovy & faster but also more mellow & melodic.
• Route 02 (oriental / as of track 30): Again starting slow & rather mellow and gradually picking up tempo and intensity. 

Whereas some tracks can fit in both routes, of course. 

Making the final choice will very tough this time...

The São Paulo based collective, Sonido Trópico, have long been establishing themselves as a new voice to be heard within the latin-american scene.

They now take a big step forward in founding a Label. Their first official release, SONIDO TRÓPICO VOL. 1, contains 13 tracks that put into waves exactly what Sonido Trópico is all about. The Producers and DJs who's work appear on this first album have not only played at Sonido Trópico's already infamous parties, but have worked alongside Sonido's 4 Resident DJs (Spaniol, Nirso, Salvador Araguaya & El Peche) in bringing new life and energy to the Sâo Paulo scene. Together they have reinterpreted and expanded, beyond precedent, the horizons of electronic music within the ultra-creative scene in São Paulo.

IT WAS lATE AFTERNOON and the small low car came down from the black road across the hills and headlands with the dark blue ocean always on the right onto 'a deserted boulevard that bordered a flat beach of two miles-of yellow sand at Casamblanca. Well ahead on the ocean side was the bulk of a big hotel and a·casino and on the left there were newly planted trees and villas whitewashed and brown timbered set in their own trees and plantings. The two young people in the car rode down the boulevard slowly looking out at the magnificent oeach and at the desert mountains of Morocco that showed blue in this light as the car passed die casino and the big hotel and went on toward the end of the boulevard. The beautiful new EP by Nhii was playing and it sounded like paradise. Xaman, Biralo and Señora have contributed amazing remixes too.  Ahead was the mouth of the river that flowed into the ocean. The tide was out and across the bright sand they saw the ancient Moroccan town and the green hills across the bay and, at the far point, the lighthouse. They stopped the car. "It's a lovely place," the girl said. "There's a cafe with tables under the trees," the young man said. "Old trees.".

THERE once lived, in Fanti-land, a man named Father Anansi. He possessed all the wisdom in the world. People came to him daily for advice and help.  One day the men of the country were unfortunate enough to offend Father Anansi, who immediately resolved to punish them. After much thought he decided that the severest penalty he could inflict would be to hide all his wisdom from them. He set to work at once to gather again all that he had already given. When he had succeeded, as he thought, in collecting it, he placed all in one great pot. This he carefully sealed, and determined to put it in a spot where no human being could reach it. Many-many years later MAUGLI identified the hidden pot and came into light with the wisdom of creating unforgettable and emotional dreams in a shape of-what is called today-music. He can be found in the shadows of Berlin. This is his first offering for Shango Records and comes with a remix by M.RUX. These two tracks whisper loudly but scream quietly.

Anoush features Muradian Ensemble interpreting a nice selection of Armenian folk dances. Band leader Hratchja Muradian plays kamantcha, while the other group members play kanoun, doudouk, clarinet, zurna, oud, accordion, & dehol. Guest soloist Liudvig Garibian improves the musical quality of the wind instruments. The Muradian Ensemble are a great example of a traditional Armenian group, with an highly arranged & polished style, very compelling.

One day, King Khosrow and his entourage went to hunt deer on the plains far in the central regions of Persia. The king was astonished when his entourage came upon an old man in his nineties, barely standing up, who was planting fig trees. “Don’t you know it takes thirty years for fig trees to grow?” asked the king, “It is time for you to give thanks for your blessing of a long life and get ready for the other world.” The old man replied, “Our fathers planted fig trees and we ate figs from them. I am planting trees for those who will come after me and, by my good deed; I am getting ready for the other world.”

An weekend adventure in the north Seattle neighborhood of Green Lake with Lucy to create a dj mix. Disconnected from reality he was stalled by an endless loop. The layers! The layers! Oh the layers! A new journey was discovered...To recreate the loop he obsessed over so relentlessly. Together with Lucy and his trusty melodica, Moog Synthesizer, Juno 106 and handful of bottle caps his voyage began. The loop was all he thought about. With every added accompaniment the composition became more elaborate and more complex...but alas! Sections were missing! He called on his new friend Paul Gafni to record guitar. His style was a solid fit. The final bit was a voice, but who could be my voice? The best choice was Louise Matoso. Her velvety melodious voice would be perfect! Soon the loop was becoming a song and the journey was coming to an end. The only objective left was to find a home for the track. A big hug from Lucy gave him a great idea.

The caliph Hâroon-oor-Rasheed went to visit the tomb of the celebrated Noosheerwân, the most famous of all the monarchs who ever governed Persia. Before the tomb was a curtain of gold cloth, which, when Hâroon touched it, fell to pieces. The walls of the tomb were covered with gold and jewels, whose splendour illumined its darkness. The body was placed in a sitting posture on a throne enchased with jewels, and had so much the appearance of life that, on the first impulse, the Commander of the Faithful bent to the ground, and saluted the remains of the just Noosheerwân. Though the face of the departed monarch was like that of a living man, and the whole of the body in a state of preservation, which showed the admirable skill of those who embalmed it, yet when the caliph touched the garments they mouldered into dust. Hâroon upon this took his own rich robes and threw them over the corpse; he also hung up a new curtain richer than that he had destroyed, and perfumed the whole tomb with camphor, and other sweet scents. Jose Solano is taking a trip down to the rivers of Persia and the great mountains of a spiritual world. This is his third offering for Shango Records. These four tracks will guide you to the mysteries of one thousand and one nights.
