My experience started by getting completely lost in a crazy white out on the Playa solo. I lost & ditched my homies in a singular effort to make my set on time on my bike lol. I ended up being 30 minutes late to my set and also played on CDJs first time in 10 years or so (or whatever long time  - I’m usually a Traktor guy).

It was one of those magical moments with the elements (extreme heat and playa dust) dictating the direction of the day. I was thirsty AF on top of being late AF. But the DISTRIKT crew had my back upon arrival with smoothies, water and drinks and made me feel at home immediately, and it turned out to be one of my most memorable and cherished experiences. Can’t wait to come back for more fun in the dust!

Sharam - DISTRIKT Sound - Burning Man 2022

Being a DJ is an intoxicating journey, where each set becomes a unique story with every track playing a vital role in crafting the narrative. I never pre-program my sets, so I never know how the story unfolds—it's a collaborative process with the audience, weaving through different genres, searching for those perfect moments and seamless connections.

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of returning to Costa Rica, performing at The BPM Festival Tamarindo for yet another unforgettable experience.

Here is my set from that mesmerizing experience. Pura Vida!

Burning Man: where each year brings a whirlwind of adventures, surprises, and moments that stick with you long after the dust settles. And in the midst of all that chaos, there's DISTRIKT; an oasis of fun and entertainment that looks straight from a Mad Max movie gone wild, takes the Burning Man experience to a whole new level. 

My inaugural gig at DISTRIKT two years back was a textbook case of Burning Man madness. Picture this: a monstrous sandstorm sweeping across the playa, me wandering around lost on my bike, fashionably late to my own set. But did DISTRIKT panic? Nah. They greeted me with a fresh smoothie to kickstart my DJing journey amidst the swirling dust. Classic!

Fast forward to my most recent escapade at DISTRIKT, and Mother Nature decided to throw a curveball — cue the floodwaters!! Yet, the flood came fashionably late, conveniently after my set. But that night? Dehydration was the name of the game. AND my Traktor, bless its digital soul, decided it wasn't in the mood to play nice with the mixer. And there I was, parched AF like a desert plant, with everyone and their playa cousins offering me water tequila while I attempted to update the mixer driver in a haze of confusion, and of course, the DISTRIKT gang was there on top of the whole process to get me up and running - literally and musically. 

In true playa fashion the show must go on. Cue the backup USBs swooping in to save the day. And just when I thought it couldn't get any wilder, in strolls Diplo himself, ready to unveil our collaborative masterpiece ‘Anthem' to the world (although at the time we did’t have name for it yet). But wait, there's more — did you know those dusty X1 Traktor controllers could go wireless? Neither did I, until Diplo schooled me, adding cowbells to our track live like a mad musical scientist.

So without further ado, here's a glimpse into that glorious night before the floods—a sonic journey through the madness and magic of DISTRIKT at Burning Man. Enjoy the ride.  ~ Sharam

Burning Man this year was truly unforgettable, filled with incredible adventures and endless inspiration. Here’s a small glimpse into the musical journey that went down. This is from my set at Sonic Soul Tribe (the only set I have a recording of). It brought me back to an old-school style of DJing with CDJs that don’t auto-sync, so some of the mixes have a more 'human' touch. :o) Hope you enjoy this little slice of the #BurningMan2024 experience!

Movement Recordings presents a new progressive house release as Matt Oliver and Togni join forces for the A Distant Memory EP, accompanied by remixes from Cary Crank and Frankie Vertigo. Brazilian producers Matt Oliver and Togni combine melodic sensibility with dancefloor focus, shaping a collaboration rooted in emotional storytelling and driving grooves. With previous releases on labels such as WARPP, Mango Alley, Sunexplosion, Univack, Clubsonica Records and Polyptych, both artists bring complementary perspectives to the project, blending warm atmospheres and hypnotic rhythmic movement into a cohesive sonic identity. Opening the EP, A Distant Memory unfolds through a steady groove and evolving harmonic progression. Atmospheric pads and expressive melodic phrases develop gradually, allowing tension and release to form naturally while maintaining a fluid late night energy. The track balances introspection and momentum, creating a refined progressive narrative. Germany's Cary Crank delivers the first reinterpretation, taking the original into deeper territory. Label boss of the well established Sunexplosion and Cranking Sounds imprints and known for his releases on Univack, Mango Alley and Steyoyoke, his version introduces rolling basslines, detailed percussion and darker tonal shades. The remix emphasizes depth and emotional resonance, transforming the theme into a more immersive and expansive club experience. The second original, Brainspin, explores a more rhythmic direction. Pulsating low end movement and layered textures drive the arrangement forward while melodic fragments appear and dissolve throughout the progression. The result is hypnotic yet dynamic, designed for flowing transitions within extended sets. Closing the release, Frankie Vertigo offers a distinctive alternative perspective. The Venice based producer reshapes Brainspin with cinematic atmospheres and refined groove work, leaning toward a melodic techno edge while preserving progressive structure. His interpretation adds contrast and energy, providing a powerful peak time companion to the originals.
