Imagine this. The man singing has been in a somewhat unknown yet merciless cult for years. He believes heavily in what the cult is doing, and that they can do no wrong for the sake of their murderous "Savior". They believe to kill any living being who has tried to conflict pain against others before joining said cult, and the police only ever found the murders of two, and the singer is being questioned by the police, and justifying it as he does so.

The brainchild of frontman Liam McCormick, The Family Crest began as a recording project in 2009 with co-founder/bassist John Seeterlin. “We always liked making music with people—getting a bunch of people together and singing. So we put ads everywhere,” says McCormick. “We posted on Craigslist and emailed old friends from school.” The outcome was greater than the original duo imagined, with 80 people credited on the first recording the band produced. From that a seven-piece core band emerged, though the Crest boasts over 400 “Extended Family” members.

Shayfer James weaves surprisingly genuine musical landscapes that evoke the gauzy, sweaty sexuality of 
gulf-coast barrooms and the fantastical, narcotic mysticism of a Lewis Carroll-inspired three-ring circus. 
Mr. James' noir-infused, piano driven music swaggers from dark danceable anthems to harrowing ballads 
with jazz lilted satire and whiskey-dirt grit. Raised with one foot in the theater and the other in a dingy 
night club, Shayfer finds inspiration as frequently in Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim as he does in 
Fiona Apple, Danny Elfman, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, The Pogues, and The White Stripes. He 
has toured the U.S., and has performed at festivals and events like CMJ NYC, Art Basel, Miami, Foburg 
Festival, New Orleans, CBGBs Festival, NYC, and Hope & Glory, Hong Kong. His songs have been 
featured by WNYC.org and Filter Magazine online, and his second album, “Counterfeit Arcade”, was
