Back in the Dark is the creation of the “DeepBlue Sessions” organisation, one of the South coasts longest running Deep House collectives.

Based at Bournemouth’s only true Underground club “The Winchester” since 2010, BITD has seen the likes of Andre Lodermann, Craig Smith of 6th Borough Project, Sam Hardaker from ZERO 7, Jimpster Matt Masters Norn de Plume of Freerange Records and Milton Jackson grace the “DEEPBLUE HIFI”, our custom built Kv2 Soundsystem that was obtained to give the djs and punters alike an unrivalled Audio experience at the BITD parties

A Northerner by heart, a Northerner by nature, DJ Mark J oozes friendliness like he’s just been smacked round the face with it. “I’m a very friendly guy, a lot of DJs have big egos. I don’t.” And with this friendly nature comes the kind of ‘go easiness’ that we all could do with a little more of. “My prerogative is, I play cool music, to cool people. And if they like it, then that’s cool too!” Mark J’s definition of cool music is deep , funky, soulful house, 
Originating from Hull, Mark J quickly familiarised himself with this kind of music in the early eighties,soul, disco travelling to the big Northern cities where “good all-nighters” were the place to be. “I fell in love with the music, the lifestyle and the people so I wanted to bring a little of it back home.” Dipping into his pockets to fund a hobby, Mark J purchased a set of DJ decks and started his journey. Playing soul funk n disco i soon fell into the early house groove. Playing at Welly Club Hull, then various warehouse parties in and around Yorkshire. “It was all about house music for me. ” I love all styles of house as long as its got a fat bass line and nice vocals. Rory is a multi award-winning Music Producer/DJ and Film Maker. His music career has seen him producing 8 critically acclaimed albums and numerous EP’s, Singles, Remixes and Collaborations with other artists worldwide on various worldwide labels. Rory covers many genres including House, Funk, HIp-Hop, Big Beat, Breaks, Chillout and many more. Some of his tracks have been used as background music on internal American Airlines and in stores like Macy’s. He has also produced tracks for Film, TV and Adverts including tracks for Disney, Sony BET TV, Fox TV, Costco, Audi Asia and the Tour De France Documentary and is constantly working on new syncs. He has DJ’ed throughout the country in clubs and at Major Festivals including Leeds Festival, he was the Opening Act at the 2014 Tour de France Fan Park performing to over 20,000 people and has DJ’d in Paris  for the Crea Sourire Charity for Sick Children.

In September 2018, Rory had a book published, ‘The Little Big Beat Book’ where he interviewed 120 major artists of the 1990s Dance Scene including Fatboy Slim and The Prodigy. The book reached No.1 in the Amazon Dance Music Book Charts. His second book The Beatles: Acting Naturally; Obscure, Rare, Unfinished and Abandoned film & TV Projects of the Fab Four’ has just been published in 2021 to rave reviews.

His film ‘Autism And Me’ is published worldwide on DVD together with a booklet he’s written explaining in easy to understand terms what it’s like living with Autism on a daily basis. Some of his awards are listed below and he has seen praise for his work from people like Paul McCartney, Stephen Fry, Craig Charles, Fatboy Slim, Michael Palin,  Jane Asher among others. He works constantly to promote understanding of Autism, going into schools and organisations where they show his film to do Q&A Sessions and gets messages from all over the world from grateful families. In fact, one American mother said she felt she knew her son for the first time having watched Rory’s film. 

He’s been on British and American TV, Radio and Press a number of times over the past few years, and has been called ‘Inspirational’ and a ‘trailblazer’.
