I had the best time at For The People’s Rave at MyAeon in July.

I played an hour of groovy house and hard boogie in the main room. This set opened the door for me for a new sound and has plunged me into a deep obsession 🤓 I’ve even been dabbling in a bit of hardgroove. 

Thanks again for For The People for having me and thanks to all the friends who came down and boogied! Can’t wait to see what For The People do next.

Shell Shock (she/her) is a Melbourne/Naarm-based DJ, party host and neurodivergent music nerd. She is drawn to groovy, melodic, psychedelic and progressive sounds. She plays soulful euphoric house, cheeky tech-house, bouncy hard dance, dark disco and driving, peak-time techno. Her sets are emotional journeys full of heart, nostalgia, energy and playfulness.

“I loved making this mix because it gave me an opportunity to show a different side of myself. I explored a more melodic, euphoric house sound with elements of trance and breakbeat – stuff I usually don’t get to play out. Progressive house and melodic techno were the genres when electronic music hooked me in my 20s, so it’s nice to re-visit my first loves.

This mix is a celebration of feminine energy in many forms - dreamy, emotional, experimental and powerful. There are lots of big feelings and soaring female vocals. We start slow and contemplative and end up in stomping our feet in the club. It took me a couple of goes to get this mix right – because it’s a blend of different genres and tempos – so it was good to get out my comfort zone.

I’ve chosen artists I admire, such as Robyn, Bjork, Kelly Lee Owens and RONA. I’m inspired by the way they push themselves creatively and stand up for what they believe in. It was important to me to include some local Australian artists, people of colour, queer people and First Nations voices. It has also prompted me to include more femme and non-binary artists in my sets in the future. I hope you enjoy it.”
