SqrtSigil is the solo project of Maciek Jaciuk (30 Kilo Słonca, Ak Uki, mothertape) and is one of the founders of the Plaża Zachodnia label. 

The project was founded in 2014, since then it has evolved both musically and in terms of equipment, in the meantime abandoning sequencers to play free impro. 
Since its inception, it has released several (mostly) cassettes, including for Swedish label Purlieu Recordings. and UK's Tone Burst. 
Noisy, crackling, experimental pulses are complemented by unreal and hypnotic ambient, where fragments of field recordings often play an important role, full of quiet conversations, sighs and whispers. Everything is submerged in fuzzy sound blurs, in which one can hear unidentified micro-sounds, textures, murmurs and rustles with emerging dub bass pulsations or fragments of beat. 
He performs live sporadically, as he convinces us, he treats it as playing "in the bedroom", to soothe the nerves after a day full of noise and chaos... In his free time he builds synths and finds joy in creating short audio-visual forms.

His music phase shifts between windows streaked with rain smearing the lights from the high rise opposite into a smudged polaroid vision.

Kagami Smile is from an industrial city a few hours from Chicago and spends some of his time in the futuristic sprawl of Shenzhen, China. He takes influence from shoegaze records as well as minimal techno labels such as Chain Reaction and Modern Love. His most recent output of music focuses on minimal meditative synthwork reminiscent of early Aphex Twin and strong nods to Japanese video game soundtracks as well as the concept of liminal spaces. His music reflects a series of recurring dreams had since 2017, that of a missed moment with a stranger. His compositions are usually filled with nostalgia and romance as well as a haze of urban solitude. He has released on labels such as Dream Catalogue, Tekres, SOVN, Gin&Platonic, as well as an upcoming album on Opal Tapes and Sores (Sound+Matter) from Sweden. He will also release an album on Shimmering Moods this year.

Electronic musician and pop ambient pioneer Markus Guentner was listening to Karen Vogt's track "Cloud forty-three" precisely at the same time as the church bells in his hometown of Regensburg, Germany, were ringing at 21h. Guentner commented on how well the two sounds work together, and Vogt agreed that he should do a remix using her original vocal loop track and the bell sound. Guentner recorded the bell ringing the next evening and then proceeded to mix the two together.

previews. Nebel lang - Family Relations | Lᴏɴᴛᴀɴᴏ Series

The focal point in these elided consecutive excerpts from a continuous dawn recording is the dawn duet and solo singing of the Kangaroo Island subspecies (lashmari) of the Western Whipbird (Psophodes nigrogularis), also known as the White-bellied Whipbird (Psophodes leucogaster).** Background species include: Crescent Honeyeater, Galah, Grey Shrike-thrush, Kangaroo Island subspecies (KI) Crimson Rosella, KI Grey Currawong, KI Superb Fairy-wren, among others. The recording was made near the edge of a waterfall that was completely dry, overlooking a deep valley winding down to the ocean just over a kilometre away.

When listening to this recording (and viewing the accompanying track photograph taken at the location), it is important to embrace in mind that one is listening to an ecosystem soundscape recorded at dawn only five years after untypically catastrophic bushfires (the 'Black Summer' bushfires of 2019-2020) - an untypicality that is scientifically attributable to anthropically-caused climate change. This an ecosystem still in early stages of a struggling recovery (exacerbated by the continuation of the drought that initially catalysed the 'Black Summer' bushfires), and the focal birds that one is listening to were listed, in 2021, according to the IUCN Red List classification, as 'Endangered'. The following is a quotation from the Australian government environmental report that advised this classification:

"The main factor that made the subspecies eligible for listing in the Endangered category was the severe (>50%) reduction in population size in the previous 10 years. This major reduction in population was caused by the largest recorded wildfire on Kangaroo Island that burned for six weeks from late December 2019 to early February 2020. The subspecies’ extent of occurrence is estimated at 5,300 km2 (stable trend), and the area of occupancy is estimated to be 540 km2 (contracted). The population is estimated to have declined to 1,000 mature individuals in the wild due to the Kangaroo Island 2019/2020 bushfires, however this decline is probably not continuing. An analysis by a team from the National Environmental Science Program Threatened Species Recovery Hub shows that a large proportion of the range of Kangaroo Island Western Whipbird was affected by these fires: 51% was burnt in high to very high severity fire, and a further 11% was burnt in low to moderate severity fire. A structured expert elicitation process was used to estimate the proportional population change for this species from pre-fire levels to immediately after the fire and then out to three generations/10 years after the fire, when exposed to fires of varying severity. These results, combined with the spatial analyses of fire overlap, suggest that one year after the fire, the species has experienced an overall decline of 44% from pre-fire levels, but that the decline could be as large as 62% (bound of 80% confidence limits). After 10 years, the estimate for the overall population decline relative to the pre-fire population is predicted to be 33%, but potentially as much as 58% (bound of 80% confidence limit). For comparison, experts also estimated the population change over time in the absence of fire; by 10 years, the overall population of Kangaroo Island Western Whipbird after the fire was estimated to be 30% lower than it would have been, had the 2019/2020 fire not occurred."

Shade (excerpt)

This is a recording of what we believe is a culverted stream below Fallenbrunnen in Friedrichshafen. We noticed this almost as soon as we arrived there, the night before we played at VOD-Festival (19 July 2025), right across the street from Kulturhaus Caserne, the festival venue. The recording was incorporated into the live show, a hidden sound from somewhere almost beneath our feet as we played.

Offthesky - Dying Within Dreams

Jason van Wyk is a Cape Town (South Africa) based electronic music producer whose music I often wish could have been my own. From cinematic soundscapes to soft piano keys and mesmerising passages, the elements of his pieces are all the necessary ingredients that I often try to combine in my music. And that is basically the highest sort of praise that I could give. There are many incredible ambient musicians who truly inspire me with their ability to create and transport me to their fantastic sonic worlds. And plenty have contributed to my growth as a musician - I am permanently indebted to many of them, whom I am honoured to call friends. But in my soul, I am a pianist, and the instrument [or its echoes] inevitably make it into my tracks. And this is what I love about Jason's music. His most recent release on the beloved n5MD, Inherent, is a more upbeat, forward-driven progression, combining his skills of crafting dance-oriented grooves with atmospheric soundtracks. For his upcoming EP, Jason reworked three tracks into pure ambient pieces. To truly appreciate the transformation, start by hearing the original track, followed by this alternative version.
