SHIORI USUI:
Originally from Japan, Shiori is a BBC Proms commissioned composer, improviser and performer. Described as a composer with “entirely individual ears” (The Times), many of her compositions are inspired by the sounds of the human body, and many other weird and wonderful organisms living on Earth. Shiori has been a recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including Toru Takemitsu Composition Award, Ricordi Lab publishing award, Scottish Awards for New Music for large ensemble, and Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Awards For Artists. As an improvising vocalist/pianist, Shiori has performed with various international artists such as Cato, Grey Area, Arve Henriksen, Ilan Volkov and Rie Nakajima.
