Mike Parker is a heavy hitting Techno artist. The New Yorker pulls no punches, just delivers them in the form of powerful percussion and hypnotic harmonies. With two decades of experience behind him "Modulation Cave" was always going to be something special. The two tracker is born in the collapsing pressure of “Modulation Cave 1.” Bleary eyed bass bubbles and boils in this heated piece of late night Techno debauchery. Melodies creep while a battery of beats disintegrates nerve endings. The flip is occupied by the twin, “Modulation Cave 2.” The brother in arms is a calmer affair, but that cyclical tension is ever present. The steady percussion of the original is maintained with harmonies being sent beaming into space. Radio waves bounce from above, liquefied electricity leaking through to the world below. Machine mesmerism from the US producer. Vinyl only to be released in July 2014.

That high pitch bell sound, which is somehow becoming a trademark in Max_M’s productions, splits in multiple directions generating soulful melodies and grooves. A perfect track for peak time.

Fabrizio Lapiana’s cut is an introspective journey rich in modular-fueled melodies. Its mellow refrains pay tribute to ambient classics and trippy British electronica, while the drum programming sets the track into a techno context, groovy and forward driving.

HEAD MASTERS TWR72’S SEQUEL RELEASE ON FLOAT RECORDS IS CALLED 'DEFORM'.

Their journey to examine the perfect groove continues with these two straight forward tracks. The original Deform infiltrates onto the lower parts of the groove where the spacious tom bass challenges the main percussion bass. As a result, an uncommon groove appears, which gets stimulated by an suddenly appearing unusual sound continuing throughout the track.

The linear version is even more stripped down to the essence of the grooves purpose. The obvious title refers to the broken down and straight forward character, however without losing the focus of the original.

During these days where lo-fi analogue house productions seems to be the it thing, its time to dig out a release by one of the true pioneers of house music. Not an outsider but one of the names thats been around forever and thats known for several timeless house classics. Almost 20 years after its original release date we are happy to share this forgotten and overlooked gem by Roy Davis Jr. - Roy's Chicago Basement Traxx.
Originally released as 4 track ep on Kumba Records, but we thought it was appropriate to shine some light on our three favorites, Chemical Warfare, Jack Da Rhythms and Broken Machines. Three dirty, raw, jacking and most of all intense tracks, that are among the best things that came out of Chicago. Jerking rhythms, hypnotic synths and live arrangements stripped to the bare essential! Endless respect to Roy Davis Jr. for being such a versatile and inspirational producer.

Oh and this one is not changing hands for big money (which we see so often as sales argument). Untill recently it actually always used to be pretty cheap on Discogs ;-)

It was early 2007 when Inigo Kennedy inaugurated Token. Since that Identify Yourself 12” the Belgian label has gone from strength to strength, integrating both Kennedy and Ashley Burchett, aka Ø [Phase], into becoming integral cogs in the Token machine. In between releases by Grovskopa, Oscar Mulero and Go Hiyama, both Ø [Phase] and Inigo Kennedy dominated Token’s output, but it wasn’t until Burchett’s watershed Binary Opposition that Token received the shower of praise it deserved. Following this, label founder Kr!z issued three remix 12”s of that release which, including Token regulars, took in a profound cast of producers to reprocess “Binary Opposition” by the way of Sigha, Peter Van Hoesen, Planetary Assault Systems and Ben Klock. It was here Token stamped their authority on contemporary techno.

Since then Token has grown exponentially, bringing into their fold artists like Xhin, Mark Broom and Rødhåd, while Ctrls, formally one half of Northern Structures, has seen his solo career flourish on Token with the release of five records to date, and he joins Inigo Kennedy and Ø [Phase] as a label stalwart. Additionally this year, Orphx and Ancient Methods debuted their relentless Eschaton collaboration on Token, and Christian Wünsch’s Spherical Coordinates dalliance with Oscar Mulero has gained even more momentum with a second release called Kinematics Equations. Now, seven years after that debut Kennedy record, Token present Aphelion, a nine-track CD and triple vinyl grandstand of new and exclusive material from label regulars and like-minded artists whom Token founder Kr!z specifically commissioned for this milestone release.

The penultimate record before Aphelion was a second Token 12” by Rødhåd, another artist adding to the cultivation of the label’s sound and roster, and for this compilation the Berliner supplies his cosmically inspired “Haumea”. Joining the Dystopian founder on Aphelion are three of the UK’s most influential techno artists: Surgeon, James Ruskin and Luke Slater under his Planetary Assault Systems alias who provide Token with solo material for the first time after previously appearing on the imprint in remix form. Entirely new names to grace the label via Aphelion include Stroboscopic Artefacts founder Lucy, and Blawan and Pariah's Karenn project, while label faithfuls Inigo Kennedy,  Ø [Phase] and Ctrls naturally commit three Token defining productions.

Casting one’s eye over Token’s back catalogue and it’s clear to see the label is a staunch advocate of absolute techno, remaining steadfast in issuing quality material that remains true to classic strands of the genre regardless of its popularity flux. In that respect, Aphelion - a word used to describe the point in orbit when a planet or comet is farthest from the sun - provides a simple analogy that the magnetic force of Token, unfazed by the shadows cast by popular opinion, will proudly shine light on their artists and given styles. 

“We started in an era where our genre was very unpopular,” Kr!z explains. “And in the end that seemed a big advantage for us, because when everyone was giving up, we started our mission.” Regularly hosting label nights in prominent clubs around the world, Token has become a label supported by a wide-ranging body of artists like Âme and Ben Klock to Efdemin, Truss and Ancient Methods. With the label now branching out into album and compilation territory, Token’s duty to techno may not yet be accomplished, but it’s been a job well done.

We don’t often invite people to run the FACT Mix gauntlet more than once – but if anyone gets to bend the rules, it’s Klock.

The Berlin titan last graced these parts back in 2009, filing a muscular FACT Mix entirely in keeping with his reputation as Berghain’s bosher-in-chief. The last five years have seen him consolidate his reputation as a standard bearer of refined, take-no-prisoners techno; his eight-hour-plus sets continue to shake Berghain’s foundations, and, although his output has slowed substantially, he’s still found time to knock out the occasional release on Ostgut Ton. His Klockworks label continues to tick along, too - new releases from fellow FACT mixer Trevino and Etapp Kyle are imminent, plus, if a forthcoming stint of “studio time” comes good, potentially more new music from Klock himself.

Those expecting pulverising 4×4 might be surprised by Klock’s sophomore FACT mix – a “deeper, dreamy” collection, bookended by two vintage ambient tracks and shot through with wonder. Unreleased Klockworks material features, as do cuts from the likes of Function, Ben Sims, Surgeon, Orgue Electronique and Lucy. The mix is a studio-recorded affair – something Klock sees as a very different kettle of fish to playing out: “Club mixes are obviously more spontaneous and capture the vibe of a specific night, while working in the studio offers other possibilities like re-editing tracks and layering tunes more precisely, which I’ve done a lot of that here.” Set your watches…

After debuting earlier this year on a collaborative split with Max_M for Parachute Records, Italian producer Wrong Assessment lands on M_Rec Ltd with his very own 12”. 

’Disillusionment’ is a tightly programmed techno tool packed with groove. There’s a warm and almost melodic bass line here, clearly indebted to the Detroit groove, but darkened as it has become custom with Italian producers and their sound. The loops that develop around it are of the hypnotic kind… the sound that recently made M_Rec Ltd Label of The Month on Resident Advisor. Parachute affiliate CW/A (already involved in Clockwork and Avatism) delivers a prime time remix that transform the original into an aggressive techno anthem. Playing intelligently with the elements of the original, the remix delineates a very interesting narrative as it fluctuates between harshness, funk and psychedelia. Expect major playtime.

On the flip side, ‘Persecutory Beliefs’ is basically a tribute to all proper techno dancefloors. With tension and tightness, the track revolves around a forward driving ravey refrain perfected for those late night sessions. Closing the EP, ‘Inner Turmoil’ follows a similar path, but gets druggier and more crepuscular as it evolves. Like throughout the entire EP, there’s a love for proper 90s techno at play here. Dark stuff for late, late nights.

Is it clear that Max_M and his label M_Rec Ltd have discovered major talent in Wrong Assessment. Expect more great things throughout 2015.

The northern Spanish duo returns to Pole headquarters, this time for the label’s number nine release: Pole 09 “Complex” EP. 
Exium are well known for their techno adventures, spanning over more than ten years. Their style is always changing shape, evolving from experimental textures to harsh rhythms and industrial flavoured beats. With this new release they give their style a new twist by making the synths the starring element of “Complex”, a melodic techno number, full of harmonies, portamento leads and pulsating beats. 
Detroit's own legendary Dj Rolando reworks the original version in a more percussive style, but preserving the melodies and leads. A sure floor smasher. 
”The Quiet Man” closes this release by returning to the classic Exium sound: hard drums, sharp hatzs and dense atmospheres, for the darkest fans of pure techno grooves.

We are excited to announce a full length album (2x12”) by key Cititrax artist Broken English Club​. After the strong reception of his split EP with Silent Servant (Official)​, solo work for both Cititrax and Jealous God, and recent feature on the Cititrax: Tracks Volume One EP, oliver ho​ (also known for his Raudive​ alias) expands upon the themes in his earlier output. Now though, he is presenting Broken English Club as the multifaceted project that it is. He fearlessly exposes a range of emotion through varying sound, texture and song structure. The result is a manifestation of his influences (post punk, noise, techno, grindcore) melded into his own unique vision and culminating in an album that sounds absolutely massive, both on and off the dance floor. About Broken English Club, in Oliver’s own words:
“It’s not about some idea of the future, it’s about a grubbier seedier world. There's no superior technology here, there’s a romance to damp concrete buildings and abandoned reservoirs. Somewhere in the nursing homes that smell of bleach and piss, under the jaundice yellow glow of street lights, there’s a dark soul. I like music with a sense of dread, there’s drama or suspense in that feeling somewhere.
I am fueled by the energy and noise of 1980’s grindcore. The track 'Scum' is a tribute to the Napalm Death song of the same name. Those kind of brutalist noise bands are a very English thing to me, the oblivion of that is romantic.
I am fascinated and disgusted by things, and I like that friction. The best things in life seem perverted and disgusting at first and then become beautiful and transcendent.
I have these ideas filling my head and it gives me a sense purpose, I owe it to these obsessions of mine to see them through, to give them a place to exist. That’s Broken English Club. “

Blankstairs is pleased to announce the release of 'Pathfinder', the latest record from Washington State resident Archivist. 'Pathfinder' is Archivist's second release on Blankstairs, following 2015's  'Migration', which Impose Magazine celebrated as offering listeners “the possibility of transcendence.” Archivist's new record is no different, featuring three original deep techno tracks along with a remix by Bunker NY resident Eric Cloutier. With 'Pathfinder', Archivist shows himself to be one of the West Coast's most intense and interesting techno producers.

Opening the record is “Klamath”, which rises gently out of the darkness before overtaking the listener with its percussive power. Channeling the Washington landscape, the track is a rich and hypnotic ride that flows like a landslide before finally returning to a state of rest. 'A Rogue Moon' is a ghostly trip down shadowed trails, as euphonic echoes and esoteric strings find space in the tracks cavernous kicks, making it perfect for late nights and early mornings.

The second side features two takes of the title track 'Pathfinder'. The original version shows Archivist's ability to temper a peak time tune, with rolling rhythms and cacophonous stabs of chords that boulder over the listener, leaving little left in its wake. Eric Cloutier closes the EP by rebuilding 'Pathfinder' into a clean, cutting cleaver, proving that Cloutier is just as powerful as a producer as he is a DJ.

BST014 will be released in 12" and Digital formats on February 19th, 2016.

“Farewell” described how someone who went through the cycle of a relationship. It’s about breakup, facing the future alone and also reveals the teenage girls inside us. Cicada selected 14 songs from “Over the Sea /Under the Water”, “Pieces”, and “Let’s Go” With the new recording and production, together they told a story.

Petar Dundov - Oasis (Original Mix)

After appearing alongside Clint Mansell and Philip Glass on the soundtrack for Park Chan-Wook's recent psychological thriller Stoker, Emily Wells prepares to release her latest album and single.

Album ‘Mama’ (out June 3rd via Partisan) combines subtle hip-hop inflections and wide-ranging sounds with Emily’s distinctive feline vocals, creating a record that is simultaneously light & delicate with a bold punch of personality.

Contrasting with the heavy layering and electronics of the original, the European version of ‘Mama’ sees Wells re-imagining the entire record acoustically for a second disc and mirror version. These fresh renditions of an already unique record are stunningly austere, recorded solely with voice and guitar. Emily Wells has stripped off her own armour, leaving only her crystalline voice and equally unambiguous songwriting on display.

String-laden single ‘Passenger’ is released on April 29th. Its noir-ish tone is cinematic in its scope - a song that becomes a real focal point of Mama.

From the start of her career, Wells’ musical interests were simply too wide ranging for just one instrument. Trained as a classical violinist, the Texan soon created her own sonic “spaceship,” an ever-growing pulsating arsenal of synthesizers, effects pedals and toy instruments, all tied together with live sampling and a genre-agnostic approach that is diverse, distinctive, and utterly her own. Honing her sound on a series of independent releases, including an acclaimed cover of The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic ‘Juicy’, it was these initial glimpses and the countless live dates both as bandleader and solo performer that carved out the musician she has become today.

The female singer-songwriter stable may be packed with unique voices and varying degrees of talent, but Emily Wells is an artist whose innate complexities lift her out of that particular stable and into a realm all of her own.

“In transition.” “In transit,” she quipped. “Always together, even when apart.” On that note he turned to her, all serious and sullen. “I want you to know this,’ he went on. “What we shared has forever changed me, and disrupted the world around us, for a while. I will wear your sweet-saline kiss eternal. All I ask...” He paused, hesitantly. “...Is that you take a little part of me with you too.”

Despite the watery divide between them, Brooklyn-bound Greg Schappert and London-based Tom Russell have fostered a production partnership as Donor / Truss for the last six years, emerging today as one of techno’s more robust and hardworking duos. As solo artists they’ve racked up notable releases between them on labels like Stroboscopic Artefacts, Perc Trax and Our Circula Sound, outside of Schappert’s own Miniscule imprint. Fidgety “Ease” then does an about turn on the B-side before plunging headlong into swollen substrata stuff on the close.
