Hylke has been an active chain in Amsterdam’s underground music scene for the past years.
He's been developing his passion for curating music in multiple ways; from organizing events, setting up connections between (international) dj's, producers and labels, to collecting records devotedly.
Known as co-founder of label- and vinyl-distribution One Eye Witness, he's constantly exposed to fresh impulses of music. Taking all these experiences to the decks as a DJ, Hylke’s sound is forged from a fascination for eerie aesthetics, shaped to likewise sounds and
danceable club beats.

Guest mix #125 || Reece Walker for Deeprhythms

For our 4th addition of CoziMix we welcome the intuitive and talented DJ, Gabriel Finch @gabrielfinch . Born and bread in London, Gabriel started his journey in Leeds for many years building a strong reputation and collection of records which inspired him to create a community around him. From this he was able to really dive into music finding his love in trance, techno, electro and beyond. His ability to dig and find unique records expresses his passions and knowledge for these styles. His collection is something only music heads would dream of. Working for Juno Records, Rinse FM and being a part of the Next Door Records family, Gabriel is no stranger to underground electronic scene. We are so excited to have him curate an all vinyl mix for us with fundamental thought from his own selection of rare records. Expect an extensive, levitating journey into a world of immersive, hypnotic sounds and peak level vibrance.

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?

I’ve grown up with a lot of music in my family.  My parents were artists within musical theatre and dance. So I was exposed to a lot of different types of music and rhythm.  I got into electronic music around starting at secondary school through my older sister who liked DnB.  And then I discovered house, UKG and started finding more and more tracks. And then eventually I thought it would be fun to try and mix them together so started doing that just before I started university.  And then yeah got into techno at uni I found the sounds I loved the most through going to clubs and listening to the djs.  I remember watching the big names do all night long vinyl sets and was just blown away, so I just had to try and learn myself.  On the producing side that came later when I left university so I’m still working on that part, no tracks out yet. 

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?

At dimensions festival couple years back a group of us lay down and listened melina serser play an amazing set of ambient, psychedelic downtempo whilst we all ate figs.  Was pretty cosy to me and a nice memory.

3.Are you an introvert or extrovert in the industry?

I’m a bit of both I’d say.  I really love being alone but I’m also not antisocial and love meeting new people.  I just find social activities quite draining so I need time to recharge and be alone.  But djing is great because you can be at the party and enjoy yourself playing music for people without having to say anything hahah. 

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?

Difficult question! Depends what vibe you’d want to be on forever. I wouldn’t want to be sad but a lot of my favourites are quite melancholic.  I’m going to say Marius Cultier - Nathalie which is a heartfelt beautiful song.

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? do you have any special remedies/ mental prep/ places to go to? :)

My gig prep can be a bit manic because it always ends up taking hours packing my record bag.  I need to asses what sort of vibe I’m going to go for and look through my racks to see what I fancy pulling out.  Then I just stage my bag in order of vibe and mood which can take ages to narrow down.  In terms of production my approach changes all the time but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m still learning a lot or if I get bored doing the same thing.  Who knows, but sometimes I start with just fiddling and making weird noises on reaktor or wave table until something pops out that’s cool.  It’s also fun to use my tascam and record different noises and see what you can make with it in ableton.

CoziMix 04 - Gabriel Finch

The Founder of the Community Radio "Callshop Radio" @callshopradio takes you on a journey through his passion for more minimalistic and dubby electronics. Puristic vinyl transitions all throughout the set, steady lush house grooves & occasional fuzzy trance sounds merge under a smokescreen of dub-techno bits. 

Kaspar Van De Water @kasparvdw delivers the grooves for the summer. While he takes you back the days of long lasting muddled dancing hours intoxicated by only 2 turntables - he also features a whole side on our new whitelabel SHVR W1 dropping this week. A record-series focused on said puristic but muddled dancefloors.
