Michael Mayer, aka Mr. Lava Lava asked a bunch of his absolute favourite artists to have a go at some of the tracks from his recent album 'The Floor Is Lava'. First up is Barcelona's brightest flame, RAXON, who is melting 'Brainwave 2.0' into a stompin fun-filled primetime banger. Longtime collaborator DAVE DK is a masterful producer and remixer that appears regularly on Pampa and Kompakt. His take on 'The Solution' feels like a road trip to paradise and back. Montreal's PRIORI is one of the hottest names in showbiz right now. His ability to bridge genres and create pristine sound designs is fully on display in his remix for 'The Solution'. For our 14th release we are honored to have on board @roman-fluegel , a master and real pioneer of the scene. The track he chose to edit dates back to the fabulous ‘80s, and the idea was born when our hero closed a four-hour set with the original, leaving everyone speechless, including us. “Ooh to be ah” by Kajagoogoo is a critic to frivolity, a game and a challenge at the same time. And this reinterpretation, thanks to our artist’s trademark electronic sounds, will captivate you from the first listen.

I had such a great time playing for Disco Bizarre at KitKat Club; honestly one of the most fun nights I’ve had in ages, spinning so many of my favorite disco records. 

I don’t usually do this, but since quite a few people asked about a recording of my set, and since there wasn’t one from that night, I decided to recreate it using my flashdrive history. Same tunes, same energy: captured as live as possible on my home setup to keep that original vibe alive.

According with the mythology of Agharo, the spirit of every being lives in the stars. And so when the body dies, the spirit returns to the stars where it belongs. The soul is then the constellation formed by the stars every being has.

This structure of constellation, however, isn’t two-dimensional as in western astronomy; in Aibana each star is intimately connected with every other star within the constellation and within them runs the will of the spirit and its fate. The stronger the structure of Aibana, the stronger the spirit.

These cards speak of the individual — of our self in relation with the self. Or our spirit and our soul. Of that which is behind all masks, our true self and our true fears. How did the meaning of the tarot card inspire the journey of this mix?

I was appealed by the ‘confidence’ aspect of it.
I really played the tracks I wanted to hear myself without thinking about anything else. Sometimes you might overthink a mix - especially one recorded at home one. But in this case I really went with the flow and eveything seems ‘fated’ to happen this way.

Mason is renowned for bucking the trend and purposely going against the grain, whilst still maintaining the exceptional ability to produce music acceptable for radio as well as the most respected dance floors.
Firstly, we have the sure-fire dance floor destroying in 'Room Shaker'. Mason expertly blurs the lines between driving House beats and Disco opulence and funk rolled into one capped off by the perfectly executed use of the track's namesake 'Room Shaker' vocal in all the right places.
Next up, he delivers a tasty portion of underground fuelled house in the form of 'Djangame' combining a chunky gut-wrenching bass with fine pulsating percussion and a catchy vocal finished off with a splash of weird and wonderful noises that Reptile Dysfunction has become known for. 

The third track on the EP, 'Soul Down', is more of a traditional take on the classic Disco fuelled funk underpinned by low bassline rumble and plenty of organ action tied together with an infectious vocal that you're sure to be singing for days.


"I met mason like 15 years ago at a gig we played together in Belgium and since then have been fond of his, like me, open-mindedness to music in what they release themselves and on their excellent label animal language, music without boundaries and not being pigeonholed (throwback to my former record label "Pigeonhole This" for those who remember when I was a baby in the music industry trying to work out who the hell I was and trying to be a jack of all trades!) . Silicone Soul have lined up a succession of exciting releases to mark ten years since their subterranean parallel project and label, Darkroom Dubs first unleashed its uniquely idiosyncratic take on house music.

Having caused supersonic ripples throughout the underground dance community since his debut release on Darkroom Dubs first hit the shelves in 2007, Evgeny Bukreev (AKA Freska) is about to drop his long-awaited debut album.

"Wrong Songs" more than lives up to the promise of the singles and EPs which preceded it, uncurling in a heady blend of booming electronic funk, startling sonic weaving with innate sense of melody, swirlingly spectral in the dense aural meteor showers of vocal shards and sublimely orchestrated mutations of disparate musical ingredients.

Now relocated to Moscow, the Murmansk born producer has mentioned being influenced by Kraftwerk, Black Sabbath and the music of his native Russia, but anything from the percussive attack of early acid house and Detroit techno also pitch in to what he astutely describes as `rhythm and soul'. Appearing also on labels such as Stil Vor Talent, Karate Musik, Manual, Azuli, Lo and Traum Schallplaten [for whom he was asked to remix Minilogue, and didn`t disappoint].

The album blends versions of singles released on Silicone Soul's decade spanning, future-pointing electronic vision Darkroom Dubs, including the buzzed-up judder of "North And South" and sexed-up robo-funk of "Slow Cold Slow" [plus symphonic jazz-tinged flip "Honey from Within" with a flotilla of new outings, including the heaving bass-monster of "Breathing In", booming rattlesnake hump of "Lo Lo Love" and the ghostly "Doves On My Window". Then there's the panting "Ink In", rinky-dink organ carnage of "Some Turns Inside" and weird chorale-draped "Stoned Bytes" ending in the vocal-layered finale "The Kathedral" hinting to another exciting new direction.

Last year Freska also remixed Silicone Soul's "David Vincent's Blues", as part of their esteemed Soma 20 Remix collection. One listen to this astonishing debut album leaves no doubt that these twin career peaks are only the beginning for the man from Murmansk.
