The work centres around a synthesiser timbre that precisely drifts between semitones, cleverly breaking away from traditional tonal frameworks while creating a stark contrast against the rugged, distorted bass in the lower frequencies, establishing distinct layers in the acoustic space.

As the track progresses, the tension between these auditory elements gradually builds momentum, unleashing an aggressive sonic storm before ultimately returning to rationality and order. This dramatic sonic narrative runs through the entire work.

The single also serves as the musical component of the audiovisual installation '1D985'. Within this broader artistic framework, 3ASiC's sound design engages in dialogue with visual artist Raven Kwok's algorithmic imaging system. Kwok's visual system, employing a unique k-dimensional tree algorithm framework, generates flowing visual imagery through complex recursive structures that resonate with the sonic evolution of the music. The work premiered at the exhibition 'Loading... Access' at Shanghai's UFO Terminal, where it was presented on a circular LED display system, offering audiences an immersive audiovisual experience.

If you've followed China's underground scene long enough, you probably remember 3ASiC & LJC's (@viasorifer) collaboration Yong (泳) on Vibe Digital.

Six years later, Yong has become a staple of China's dance music scene, while both 3ASiC and LJC have gained support from underground icons like Plastician, Mumdance, Martyn, and Jacques Greene. After a long pause and a few solo releases from both artists, 3ASiC & LJC reunite on inexist.club with their new EP Lost / Echo.

The lead track, Lost, effortlessly blends the uplifting vibes of modern Trance with Breakbeat Garage. Imagine the 2005 FWD sound getting repurposed for Creamfields main stage—no less, no more.

Meanwhile, Echo brings Grime / Wave sounds back to their heyday, with icey synth melodies roaring above the Grime bassline, echoing Joker's Kapsize swag.

Alpha Pup Records presents Mù Chè Shān Chū by Howie Lee: an innovative producer, master sound curator, and ambassador from the Chinese musical underground. Born in Beijing where he lives now, Lee has lived in London, recorded in Taipei, and is now releasing his debut album on a Los Angeles label – truly a global phenomenon.

After being hit up by Snoop Lion for a remix in 2012, Lee’s “future music from Downtown Beijing” busted out of China to captivate crowds with its thoroughly unique style. His distinct approach blends local samples, traditional Chinese sounds, and inventive modern rhythms. Tracks are drenched thickly in bass and imbued with the fresh feel of youth – and often, are right at home on the dance floor.

Gripping from the very beginning, intro track “The Gate” invites you into the artist’s underground world and sets the tone for an expansive, epic journey. Syncopated beats strut through “Cloud Lamps,” and “Sinka (feat. Zhang Yang)” steps right into a thundercloud. “Bei Hai” is a riveting experiment with an alluring rhythm, a warm wash of sounds that pulls in unexpected directions.

Mù Chè Shān Chū is always in motion. Impossibly dense and lush, yet also incredibly spacious and vast – a juxtaposition that reflects China itself. From the plucked strings of the guhzeng to the butter-rich bass of the 808, Lee brings an unmistakable Far East flavor to the leading edge of modern electronic music.

Commune is the debut full-length album by Singapore born, London-based producer, composer, electronic artist and pianist, Kin Leonn. Heralding a new era of accomplished young musicians in Singapore, Kin Leonnʼs transportive music projects as founding member of electronic act ‘midstʼ, and his genre-melding solo DJ sets, have instituted him as an in-demand music presence in the cityʼs thriving electronic underground.

Affectionately known by peers as the “ambient boy from Singapore”, Kin Leonnʼs arresting dream-music in Commune is sourced from a well of preconscious phrases, an evocative meditation of sorts – perhaps one that transmutes the city dross into a peaceful self-discovery in search of spiritual unity.

Commune is an atmospheric work mostly recorded using upright piano, reverb-soaked guitar, and synthesisers, with altered virtual instruments and other digital elements added later to create a tension between the organic

and the synthetic. The moods are contemplative and the melancholy, almost all-pervasive. However, within this framework, Kin Leonn explores as much ground as he can, from sweeping ambient bliss to understated piano etudes.

Illustrative song titles like Shinrin-yoku and Somewhere evoke inviting landscapes of reflection and resonance. The more electronic, rhythm-oriented cuts – particularly twin centerpieces Visionary and There were days – find common cause with the producerʼs approach of balancing programmed and improvised music, before dissolving into a liberating resolution of harmonics and noise. Quieter moments in Desire #9 and Detached also stun with their hypnotic beauty and spaciousness, revealing the artistʼs cinematically-attuned approach.

This very sense of fluidity and non-structure gives the record its shape-shifting identity, but across 10 songs and 43 minutes, Commune still functions as a single, cohesive piece of music. Itʼs easy to get lost in the album and it’s a pleasantly disorienting sensation. In the closing piano track, Nightlight serves as the coda for the whole album, showing that Kin Leonnʼs strength as a musician isnʼt all about production complexity, but in the emotional nuance he is able to coax from his instruments with sure instinct and enormous sensitivity.

BIG SHOES deals in legacy. The legacies we inherit, carry on or betray, and the legacies we leave behind for others. House Shoes and Big Tone know about legacy. The Motor City titans came up in a time when Detroit Hip-Hop experienced a super-bloom of creativity and innovation. In their own ways, they took on a mantle for the city and it’s music scene. They bled for it. They lost friends and pillars of their city. Then, they grew up and created families of their own. Still, they’ve pressed on and continued. 

Tone and Shoes have been friends and collaborators for a lifetime. BIG SHOES is a chronicle of their experiences, together and alone, carrying out the heavy and heralded legacy of being a Detroit musician. This reconciliation of the pain their journeys have faced includes a recognition of the growth brought about as a result. BIG SHOES is also a family reunion, with a litany of guests, witnesses and friends. 

This isn’t a Hollywood tale of triumph, it’s a bittersweet story of blessings and baggage. Our protagonists don’t end the album in loud and garish opulence, they complete a cipher. Where they began dealing with the weight of the lineage they carry on, we leave the story with our two auteurs in control and at peace with the patrimony they’ve built--and continue to build.
