The concept was a simple one ... One DJ, One Room, All Night in exceptional surroundings with jaw-dropping visuals (installations, performance etc), decor, and sound all combining to create a unique, fully immersive experience all based around an extraordinary, one-off musical journey.

A big driver of this passion was the simple notion that when it comes to DJaying, it's all about the context - how you set moments up, how you create curves in your sets, of the peaks and the troughs, the deliberate breathers, the space to listen, to move, to engage with the sounds on a deeper level. It's how you present a track that makes it grow, that makes it hit home much harder than it could ever do in isolation. If we lose those skills, and people become disassociated with the concept of movement and context in a set, we wind up with what we're edging ever closer towards - a monochrome landscape of brick wall noise where there's no scope for growth, for exploration, for creativity.

We've been wanting to play a dope sexy pool party for a long time now.  This came together on a humid 95 degree day at the Cadillac of campouts.  The vibe we were going for was sweaty, sexy, dirty, party music; but we were reaching deep into our crates to pull out all the songs of years past that we've wanted to hear in a bassy, half-naked, poolside setting.  So forgive us if you've heard some of these in the past, but we were particularly stoked on how the mixing worked out. 

So kick back, turn up the heat, put on that sexy number you've been waiting to show off, and put THIS in your pina colada.

The 18th One Series took place in Denver at a brand new annexe to City Hall.

We overcame one or two technical issues with ground loops & power outages in the early stages of the night, but triumphed thanks to all the hundreds of beaming souls who came out to play and made for such an impassioned evening.

A big thank you goes out to all the lighting & sound wizz-kids, and of course my good friends 'Surreal Laser' and 'The Fantastic Hosts'.

"A true west coast staple, Darren Woodhead has been holding down house vibes in Vancouver's underground for a while now. Woodhead first moved to the town of Nelson, BC during the mid-90s, before settling down closer to the Pacific. Known for his legendary Sauna Sessions parties, where folks dance in nothing but towels, Woodhead has built a name for himself as one of Vancouver's best for progressive four-to-the-floor beats. Woodhead aligns with some of Western Canada's finest such as Neighbour, Max Ulis, Jesse Bru, Ryan Wells, and Andy Clockwork.

In his NORTHMIX debut, he kicks off with some easy, soulful house, before elevating the sound to more techy terrain that really gets the dancefloor going. And it all comes together in the end, easing out on a euphoric note. Before heading out to your next party, be sure to put on this tasty sample of Vancity's underground.

Ladies and gentlemen, 
due to police intervention and the early shut down of last night's event at Mirage, I was not able to finish my set. :-( poor Bedouins weren't able to play at all )-;

Luckily I have an excerpt of my last New York set at hand, so you can continue your acid experience with this one. It was the third day of a little tour in March that brought me to the #akumandra party at #HouseOfYes. (Thanks to everybody for having made this a very special night)
The set was actually supposed to be released as third part of my trilogy, but, hey, I am happy to trade conceptional purity for spontaneity ;-)


Nothing more to say, but thanks to everybody who came out last night and had to leave earlier than expected and of course thanks a lot to #Cityfox for making it all happen.

From raiding her parents’ record collection when she was just a child, to becoming resident at Vancouver’s MIA, Niki has continuously been living with the music in the forefront. Within a very short time, she has put herself on the map as an up and coming DJ. 

Niki conveys her expression of life to listeners and engages crowds through her live sets when she’s behind the decks , and through dozens of podcasts and studio mixes. Her sets have been described as musical journeys, charming listeners and at the same time inviting them to dive into their own individual world of sensations. 

Niki is the host of Allure on Frisky Radio which airs every 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Fresh of the back of his success on Defected with summer hit 'Sunshine People' and remix of Josh Butler's huge 'Be Somebody', Dario D'Attis returns, this time alongside Sven Tasnadi, with another energetic house smash. Winter might be around the corner but title track 'I Need' has us dreaming of those summer nights, kept bubbling along with melodic bassline and feel good samples, 'I Need' encapsulates the same vibe that made 'Sunshine People' such a success. 'Countdown' is filled with Tasnadi's trademark dancefloor grooves as it's rolling beat and synth hits intertwine perfectly underneath the popular drum break sample present in so many great records.

This was the final One Series show in a 5-year run of events that began at Cellspace in San Francisco back in 2012. 

These sets gave me a much-needed chance to breathe and to branch out from the peaktime headline shows I'd been playing for many years. They allowed me time to spread my wings musically and explore different tempos and different flavours and tell a story from cover to cover. They inspired me and kept me going at a time when I was deeply disillusioned by electronic music's move into the bubblegum candy-pop of the supersized McRave. 

I believe that music has the power to affect people deeply and that it can be felt on a spiritual level, and during these sets I always felt that connection profoundly. I'm proud of what I achieved with them and that a beautiful legacy remains.

This particular set had to be reconstructed from 2/3rds of the way through as the recorder malfunctioned, but I didn't want to leave the Final One unarchived, so here it is in all of it's 6-hours of glory.

The One Series [SFO022] - Simon Shackleton - Publicworks, San Francisco

Simon Shackleton’s Elite Force project began way back in 1996, debuting on his own newly founded Fused and Bruised label with a series of peerless 12s and remixes. After a successful five years, he put Fused and Bruised on the backburner to concentrate on production work, and following several years with Whole9Yards and Moonshine he became a mainstay recording artist for AdriftRecordings (formally known as Kingsize Records) before moving on to set up hisown hugely successful U&A imprint. 

Often credited for being a lynchpin in the developing the tech-funk genre (an amalgamation of breaks, house, techno and electro) he has released a series of highly successful singles in the past few years, finding broad support from DJs and musicians across the board, including the likes of James Zabiela, Sasha, Crystal Method, Laurent Garnier and Fatboy Slim to name but five. In 2008 released a semi-retrospective double album’s worth of remixes and re-workings of a 12-year back catalogue, with over 25 mixes coming from such luminaries as Miles Dyson, Rogue Element, Deepgroove, Dylan Rhymes & Calvertron.

In addition to these solo singles, Meat Katie has been a regular collaborator with Elite Force, a relationship that had begun in 2003 with the massive-selling 'Toba', and that will see their creative relationship come to fruition in 2009 with the launch of their new joint project under the name ‘Dustbowl’, as well as a series of singles under the ‘Meat Katie & Elite Force’ banner. 

As a remixer, Elite Force has always been in huge demand, with re-workings for the likes of Grandmaster Flash, Crystal Method, Jungle Brothers, Stereo MCs, UNKLE, Infusion, Rennie Pilgrem, Shiloh and Dylan Rhymes all contributing to his reputation as one of the most creative and effective remixers around. 

Elite Force's music has also been the soundtrack to many a movie, with a huge list of impressive A-list credits to his name, including the likes of the Matrix, Charlie's Angels, Arlington Road, Mortal Kombat, Crow, The Bone Collector, The Jackyll, Spiderman 2 and his music has appeared on a wide array of TV shows, from CSI to Top Gear, from Football Focus to LA Doctors. He's also soundtracked a number of computer games, including no fewer than 5 FIFA games, several of the Wipeout series, The Matrix and Motorstorm 1, and he is currently writing some bespoke music for forthcoming games for Ferrari and Motorstorm2.

On the decks, Elite Force has been a prime mover since 1990 when he cut his teeth playing huge student nights and self-promoted acid house nights in the South West of England, before moving up to ....London.... and ultimately gravitating towards his tech-funk style, with which he now has a full diary of global bookings. He has become known as one of the top technicians on a circuit that has included massive shows in Belarus, Hungary, Australia, Italy, USA, Czech Republic, India, Turkey, Spain, Japan, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and China, amongst others, as well as numerous festival slots including Glastonbury, Coachella, Bloom, Wickerman, the Glade and more recently Burning Man. 

He was also responsible for the hugely influential Strongarm Sessions webcasts which became something of an institution since their inception back in 2001, receiving as they did around 20,000 downloads per show, but now put on the backburner to concentrate on other projects, such as his own blog (Techfunkmanifesto) and his other musical projects, such as Dustbowl (with Meat Katie).
