The Drifter returns to Maeve with a bang. This 2-tracker carries a familiar Drifty feel but is a total graduation for the label founder.

Everything sounds better, his voice, the machines, the mix - this is next level. The vocal on title track, "Ultraviolet" has a distinctive darkwave feel, a touch melancholic, but accomplished. Brooding synth bass underpins the track leading the listener into the cosmic abyss, a journey one is only too happy to surrender themselves to. The trip continues with "Avoid The Void", an ironic title given the listeners fate so far. On this cut we lose the melancholy and march straight to the dance floor. Littered with ping pong acid warbles, clipped vocal samples and driving drums, Avoid the Void is a single minded monster.

It may have taken some time for The Drifter to come correct with original work, but after listening to this its hard to argue it wasn't worth the wait.

Closing the River Stage on a Saturday night is notoriously difficult. Walking the tightrope between being too hard and not being energetic enough is one that even the most experienced DJs have found tricky, even at the best of times. Enter: Freudenthal.

One of the most devastating dark-disco voices of a generation, it was the sculpture he built from rare and unreleased records along with Italo-hits that had that dance floor rammed from corner to corner when he finished at 4am. It was a true masterclass in river music.

South Korea has reportedly become the latest notable nation to follow the likes of Nigeria and China by outlawing the use of cryptocurrency. Given these developments, policymakers all across the continent are no doubt mulling over the merits of banning Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs). They are probably concerned that by shunning cryptocurrencies, they might end up being on the outside looking in on a lucrative financial trend that may well prove impossible to rein in regardless.

In this episode of the African Tech Round-up podcast, cryptocurrency enthusiast, Simon Dingle, joins Andile Masuku and Musa Kalenga to discuss the great Bitcoin surge that is fueling the world's current obsession with virtual money.
