The Great Gathering Friday Night

Strummerfest MKE celebrates the music of Joe Strummer, most famously of the Clash. It takes place in the Bay View neighborhood of Milwaukee on Saturday, August 19th, 2023. Nine local bands will be performing their versions of Joe Strummer songs. All proceeds to be donated to Milwaukee Public Schools' music department.

We play four songs:

Anyhow all... Remember to be present, that's your legacy, this is for all the dads/brothers/sisters/mothers. Feel free to listen up... the album is great, too. Basically Bruce Springsteen in a cabin and a 4 track. The original is the fifth track on Springsteen’s sparse, hauntingly beautiful 1982 album Nebraska recut for a more modern feel.

“Highway Patrolman” is a story song much like those written by some of Springsteen’s greatest influences, Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan. It tells the story of a police officer who is torn by the urge to defend his law-breaking brother who came back a mess after war, or to do his job correctly. Anyhow, it's great, just a cover - but a good one, sang and recorded it for the first time tonight.

Highway Patrolman - Bruce Springsteen Cover

"Auld Lang Syne" is a Scottish "new year's eve" song with words attributed to the national poet of Scotland, Robert Burns. The phrase "auld lang syne" translates to "old long since" or "for old time's sake" in the Scots language. The song is about old friends having a drink and recalling adventures they had long ago, and it is often associated with New Year's Eve celebrations. The lyrics are in the Scots language and can be interpreted as "since long ago" or "for old times' sake"

This is a Grateful Dead cover tune we're working on. It was just something that we practiced a few times and got close to nailing most of the transitions. More to come, polish and funky, I promise. So how did the rest of practice go? We'll let's just remember it as Metallica practice... I had no idea we were that good at that stuff after all these years - next Halloween, we promise ;)
