Following Touristes, her critically lauded 2015 collaboration with guitarist Vieux Farka Touré – The Guardian called it “bravely original fusion” –  the singularly talented singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Julia Easterlin has returned in a new guise. Indeed, her debut album as Hite, the ethereally titled Light of a Strange Day (just released on Six Degrees), finds her in sublime form, a mix of folk simplicity and sumptuous soundscapes.

The first single is “Eliza Jane,” a visceral masterstroke of musical gossamer. “The song is about my brother,” she reveals, “who was born as my sister – showing up and changing my world order for the better.”

“Ryan and the Son Lux fam created a whole new environment with this remix – a slow-burning explosion with a chronic case of the weirds. Thank goodness.”

We asked The Reflex a while back if he would consider making a bespoke mixtape for us. At the time he mentioned he was considering a psy-rock theme...we had no idea that this mixtape would coincide with his own 'Rock Edition' release, which has now been released. Produced by longtime Brazilian Girls collaborator Frederik Rubens, the Let’s Make Love album came to life over the course of several years. Since they’re now scattered throughout the U.S. and Europe, the four band members assembled when possible to write and record, piggybacking those sessions onto gigs in Istanbul and Madrid and Paris and New York. Despite the distance, Brazilian Girls consistently found their chemistry as kinetic as when they first started out. “It’s a little astounding to us because we’ll go so long without playing, and then we get together and things just happen in this very harmonious way,” says Sciubba.
