Part 5 of my Deep Jungle series. This part deviates away from the jungle sounds of 1993 and 1995 and delves into what happened to Atmospheric Drum and Bass after the term 'jungle' died out and D&B went through its dark Headz / No U Turn phase.

So after a few Liquid mixes. I decided to go to the origins of drum and bass with a sprinkle of Jungle. What i found was absolute gold dust. As i mixed this compilation i was thrown back into mid 90's nostalgia. I was blown away by the production on these tunes. Once again the 90's was a time where artists were on a journey to push the boundaries of electronic music. I missed the jdnb/jungle era of music as i wasn't exposed at the tender age of 6 lol I was busy listening to early garage and mainstream music. Salute to the artists back then that made the genre what it is today. This was a absolute pleasure to put together.

D&B Origins 90's Drum and Bass/Jungle Part 1(Intelligent D&B Tribute )

this is the mix, consisting of Moving Shadow releases only, clocking in at 4 (four) hours and is the first mix of three. all tracks featured (except one) are from releases with catalogue numbers before 100 - roughly at that time there was a major change in drum&bass as a whole - it became more cold, nervous, machine-like and I felt emotionally more connected to the more soulful, atmospheric and jazzy stuff being released earlier than that.

as you might have figured out by now, I was - and still am, in a way - an addict of this fine label which managed to release a hell of an amount of most forefront quality drum&bass and jungle of it's time. I was so obsessed I had to get every single vinyl Moving Shadow release. after 250 or so releases, I still am halfway. for me, it was a label with unsurpassed quality/quantity ratio, with an unique sound, the cream of the crops, the icing on a chocolate cake. few other drum&bass labels have ever gotten close to this, most notably the Good Looking empire, Metalheadz.

if anyone should care, it was recorded using two stanton st-90 turntables, a numark dm3001x mixer and two stanton sk520 cartridges, meaning it's an all vinyl mix and recorded in one go.

as I said before, there are two more 4-hour moving shadow only sessions. my ultimate dream would be to re-record and re-master these mixes using digital copies, to ensure the best sound quality which the pieces of music contained definitely deserve. these mixes were intended to be a journey through the soundscape, the snapshot of mid-90s moving shadow world, therefore, my input is merely a vessel for the music.

LTJ Bukem - Ruffneck Ting 'Hot Ting!' (02/09/1994)

I stay underground and so do my musical interests. The talent emerged through the Dubstep, Garage and D&B genres have kept sounds deep, emotional , atmospheric ,uplifting ,dark and engaging. All those elements feature on this platform.....

My personal journey started with Mj Cole's  "Sincere" released in spring 98. That tune along with Goldie's " Innercity life" and " Timeless" Album from 95 was a soul defining moment of 90's UKG ,the D&B scene and my personal appreciation for music. It has been etched into my brain since 8 years old. UK Garage was my number one genre back then and i still spin mixes past,present and new to reminisce as it was my first venture into underground music . 06/07 was my discovery of Dubstep and Burial. Tunes like Skream's " Glamma" , Coki's " Haunted " Kromestar's "Ghostship" and many more was a fresh pleasure to the ears as were the dark ,wobbly dub elements found in most early songs back then. Burial however was the guy to really take it to dark places .Often described as the " Midnight london soundtrack" His E.P Untrue made me want to dive into the genre even more and out came a craving for half beat subbassed darkness. A Follow up of artists LX One, SPMC, Kahn and more kept me addicted to this day...

 2011 a sub genre emerged from Dubstep called future garage. A mix between 2step garage and Ambient Dubstep sounds. Pushed by early pioneers submerse and clueless. This genre gained another follower within me. Once again a genre thriving underground for a minority and has stabilised with talents like sorrow, craset, sloati and many others. 

2015 i retraced my subtle love for intelligent/atmospheric D&B and the liquid form which has amplified my ties with Drum & Bass from the 90s . Having heard a Smooth & Groove podcast on insta fm(Northampton) i was hooked by the melodies and deep pads used. This prompted a look into releases on Soul Deep and Smooth and Groove records, coming across Greekboy's " inside your soul" this was the tune to throw me into a binge of great present D&B music

All these genres have a special place in my soul and i will continue to DJ and hopefully produce these genres that take you on a journey like no other.
