SYSTEM EP is the third release by New York-based, Monterrey-born producer and DJ, Debit. It is a tribal guarachero reconstruction, and Debit is the first Mexican woman in history to create within this unique musical framework. 

Debit approaches the project as a percussion-led study of the genre and its sonic potential, harnessing its triplet-driven beat and fusing it with techno and industrial sounds, bringing a new texture to this distinctly Northern Mexican regional music. 

In the absence of the characteristic high-pitched melody lines and the usual ‘prehispanic’ samples commonly present in tribal guarachero, the listener’s attention is drawn towards the timbres and harmonics of the beats. 

Conceptually speaking, SYSTEM is derived from Debit’s close reading of Tzotzil (a Mayan tongue) language books, wherein the world is broken down into categories in aid of translating cosmovisions. SYSTEM asks us to look at typically assimilated and unquestioned social phenomena, such as the alphabet or numbers, from a structuralist perspective, and to go beyond our accepted realities.

From Philadelphia, we have Estoc, a working DJ in the underground with a dance floor burning blend of hard dance and club music. From Richmond, we have Stiff Dance, known as the co-resident of Movement, one of the Richmond punk scene's favorite afterparties where she honed her blending and selecting to a razor's edge with a powerful command of gritty, old school and industrial influenced techno, EBM, and electronic post-punk. Doll Face fka Dorothy Parker was a resident DJ for the Cry Baby series at the Institut für Zukunft in Leipzig, and began producing after moving to Berlin in 2018. Doll Face began producing music after moving to Berlin in 2018. They composed and played the music for two dance pieces and performed live at the Balance Club/ Culture Festival 2020. In December 2020 their Debut EP CAKE was released on acting in concert. CAKE celebrates the daily uprising – it is a radical and emotional manifesto and furious liberation.
