Maya Q (@mxyi) releases her debut EP for Scuffed Recordings, weaving together her own unique take on influences from across the UK dance music spectrum. The New England-born, London-based DJ and producer has been building momentum throughout 2021, both with her productions and as a resident of the Co-Select collective. 

The ‘Spiral’ EP follows Maya’s appearance on the Scuffed Presents 005 compilation in early 2021 with her track ‘Belief’, which saw support from Jaguar and Jess Iszatt on BBC Introducing, among others. 

Since then, Maya released her ‘I Just Wanna’ EP through DJ Pitch and Simkin’s All Centre label, which further established her esoteric production style and her place as an artist to watch in the UK’s electronic music scene. 

On the EP’s title track, Maya comes straight out of the blocks with a jungle-inspired warper that pairs heavyweight bass with an unearthly melody and frantic breaks. 

Next up is ‘da2’, which eases off the pace in favour of atmospheric effects and chiptune-esque synth work. 

Closing out the release is ‘Drumpack’, with Maya’s eerie melodic pads and veering synth line dancing over a skippy garage-inspired beat, before introducing a grinding bassline in the second half of the track.

For Tapes 016, we welcome Infinite Monkey Theorem (@infinite-monkey-theorem) to the none/such family. Infinite Monkey Theorem is a new music project from New York that was formed during the height of the pandemic lockdown. As the experience of the nightclub had shifted from packed dance floors to small gatherings in intimate spaces, Infinite Monkey Theorem began to explore the construction of music where the idea of the club is all but a distant memory. In this Tapes X mix for none/such, they’ve delivered a musical narrative of their influences, which include jazz, shoegaze, IDM, and unconventional time signatures.

This was a paradise place, a heaven on earth in which wild colours and strange objects flickered and flashed. He lay back, perched atop the fluffy, dense mass and fell asleep. It was time to let go out here in the great beyond.

Pure fun and best occasion to play thru many different styles and tempos, and listen to many favorites of last months on a proper soundsystem  !

Fear-E kicks off his brand new imprint Posh End Music with an EP from the man himself. His 'A New Era' EP features 5 original cuts exploring the boundaries of his unique rough and ready sound.

Opening the record is Scott's personal tribute to Paul Johnson in  'PJ the King', an artist who has had a foundational influence on the music we make today, and sadly passed away recently.

Following that 'I'm Gonna Dist You Right Now'(As featured in Eclair Fifi's 2021 Essential Mix) is a twist on the classic Acid formula, machine rhythm, and an addictive acid-line. Whereas 'ReZerection' flips the rhythm onto a more syncopated base - as always with Fear-E it's this variation in his sound and ability to keep it fresh which brings the pack together.

Rounding out the record are two more belters - 'Tom Tom Club' lets things get a bit more synthy and squelchy but still with the signature tight rhythmic energy, and lastly we have the first collaboration between Fear-E and Glasgow DJ/Producer Dave Shades under his alias DAIYE, their track 'I've Got Nothing Left' evolves the stripped-back banger form, and certainly doesn't spare the horses in getting you there.

The first Posh End release, Fear-E 'A New Era' drops this Feb 11th 2022.

After a successful takeoff with the first various artist, the aircraft of DLZ Records finds itself in full zone of turbulence. This compilation with frantic and uncertain rhythms comes to disturb the flight plans of the Britain zinc.
