Three of us were involved in putting the base of this together.
- Ike, Gav and me.
Each of us added some ear candy after that...
Once that had all happened, I knew what I wanted to add to the composition to pull it all together.

The track encapsulates my love of rolling bass lines and filling created space with off beat hats, kicks and synth.
- It's a foreshadowing of the kinds of sounds and tracks I want to produce.

Astral Records continues a strong spring season by welcoming Against All Ødds back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Israel and previously known as Mimram, Against All Ødds emerged in 2022 on the strength of past releases via Freegrant Music, Timeless Moment and Parquet Recordings. The Against All Ødds production moniker was introduced to the world via Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital as part of the label's 'Around The World' compilation series. Immediately recognized for his astral take on melodic house and techno, the Jerusalem resident would go on to record projects for Beatfreak, Lost On You, Panda Lab and UV Noir, in turn earning praise from the genre's premiere tastemakers. Also finding a home on Astral Records, Against All Ødds would make his label debut with 'Higher Ground', a two-track showcase alongside a remix from Grigoré which capped off an impressive year for the Israeli artist. Now, following a single for Fideles Impressum imprint to begin 2024, Against All Ødds returns to Astral with 'Reflections'. The EP's title selection 'Reflections' sets the pace and lands with many of Against All Odds' beloved production hallmarks. Tight kick drums and neatly manicured percussion provide a DJ friendly intro, as rhythmic pulses set the course for the bassline to deliver a rush of free-flowing energy. Cruising effortlessly across the first act, it's an amalgamation of sci-fi vocal samples and wonky synth mutations which adds further depth and character, a vibe which is sure to cast a prophetic mood over the dance floor. The Israeli artist's elusive vision shines during the main break, as he maintains a sense of restraint and tension that astute fans will appreciate, before robotized vocals spark a dynamic moment and strong synth driven finale. Rounding out the release are the driving qualities of 'Lights Out', a track where Against All Ødds aims squarely at a peak hour dancefloor. Marrying the classic and contemporary sounds of the genre, the Israeli artist crafts an aesthetic that is groovy, powerful and effortlessly cool, one that balances a loud-soft dynamic perfectly. It has been a privilege and an honour to have been even a small part of the story with The Pancake People. 🥞❤️

Not many people know that my first real encounter with The Pancake People happened in 2016, when I met my good friend Naz, along with his crew. At the time, I was the resident sledgehammer man (where my name comes from) and beginner electro-swing DJ, just starting out with my first camp, “The Alenz Coffee Shop.” 🎶🔨

Since then, I've grown a deep friendship with Naz and his pancake-flipping army. 

They have watched me fall in love, mourn the loss of that love, celebrate the formation of a new one, and now, clench my fists while I learn to love myself. 💔❤️‍🩹💪

The music contained in this mix is a collection from the full 10 years that The Pancake People have been flipping. I suppose it was meant to be, at least that's how it felt when Naz asked me to play the opening party on Tuesday morning at Burn this year. 🎵🔥

AfrikaBurn 2024 - The Pancake People - X

Most people know my music to be bloodthirsty.
However, slower, swampier emotional music is actually where I am happiest. 
I find ways to express myself at this tempo that I cannot do through words.

You can imagine how happy I was when my new, but dear, friend Sheri asked me specifically to play this kind of music on the Flying Dutchman.

The morning of Wednesday at AfrikaBurn I woke up feeling an electric energy in the air. ⚡
To say I was excited is an understatement.
Before long I was officially welcomed in by Eddy the desert pirate queen 👑. 

The plan was set, dinner was had, friends were made, and off I trod back home to get ready.

If I dare say so myself, my set went off. It came out better than I had planned. This set was by far the one I planned for the most. 
Around 12H of pure planning before I even got to the desert.

I feel an overwhelming amount of privilege having been given the honour of playing on the Dutchman and being given the opportunity to meet and work with their amazing team and a few very very very talented artists 🎨.

To the friends who are becoming my family 🫶 
I salute you.
