A-Side Breaks Vol. 3 marks another chapter in a series I’ll be dropping on a regular basis — a steady stream of break-heavy selections designed for dancers who live in that space where rhythm meets instinct.

This volume leans into the raw, percussive energy that powers the breakin’ world: those stripped-down drum sections and groove pockets that DJs stretch out to keep the floor alive. These are the moments breakers train to, build on, and lose themselves in — the fuel behind the footwork, the shapes, the creativity, the flow.
For Vol. 3, I went crate-deep again, pulling out joints that shaped different generations of movement culture. It’s a nod to the roots, a salute to the dancers, and a reminder that the spirit of the break is still beating strong.

And since this series is dropping continuously, expect more heat soon — more rhythms, more textures, more reasons to hit the floor.

This track brings back the raw energy of seventies funk. It’s a nod to a group of childhood friends who grew up in the same neighborhood, celebrating above all the attitude, style, and vibe that shaped them: a blend of funk, soul, and boldness.

With its punchy basslines, rhythmic guitar riffs, and sharp brass sections, the track revives the block-party spirit, spontaneous dance moves, and the positive energy of the culture that inspired them. No nostalgia here: it’s a revival, a contemporary reinterpretation of that foundational groove that still brings them together.

Instead, Secret Soul Society - AKA Neon Heights front man Cal Gibson and friends - serve up veritable sm?rg?sbord of Balearic delights, from the dusty, looped disco-soul of 'Better Get To Know You' and the folksy Laurel Canyon vibes of 'Groovy Coconuts' to the 80s soul redux of 'Find Our Way', the bonkers 'Leeping For Joy' which should appeal to fans of 4hero, Four Tet et al, and the Stevie Nicks-biting 'Stevie Loves Bettye'.
