Sound Transitions is back with another excellent EP for your listening enjoyment. This one comes to us compliments of Bristol's own Quelaan in the form of the Glass Projections EP. It's six tracks of deeply groovy house filled with soulful chords, sliced vocal samples, and enough low end to rattle any big room.

Composed of three originals and three inventive remixes from Roaming Data, Hannd, and Phasmid, the Glass Projections EP is a snapshot of where house music is right now and where it may be headed in the future. While there are certainly nods to the past (especially in some of the excellently chopped vocal samples used), the music here is forward-thinking, interesting, and timeless. Quelaan creates a dark, steamy world that is surely informed by our own, but has the patina of something new, original, and exciting. This one is a must-have. Out April 22nd via Bandcamp and streaming services!

Dublin duo Long Island Sound present their first ever full-length “Lost Connection LP”, a dreamy and dynamic expedition of breaks, electro, techno and house.

Since breaking through in 2019, Dublin DJ/Producer duo Long Island Sound have cemented their roots in the Dublin scene. With an impressive back catalogue spanning the likes of Remmah, Body Fusion and Fabric Presents compilations, they now step up for their first full-length on their Signs Of Space imprint with the genre-bending “Lost Connection LP”. The album is brimming with emotion, seamlessly fluctuating through moments of intense euphoria, solitude and melancholy.

‘Ataria’ opens the record with airy synths and rippling, phased percussion. A deep UK twinged sub bass is introduced with a subtle burst, soon followed by gated vocals and crisp highs that transcend listeners into the album’s euphoric space. Truly embodying the theme of SOS productions is the celestial ‘Dusk’. Using stretched out reverbs, a hypnotic riff and washed out percussion, the cut is eerie yet beautifully ethereal. ‘Fragments’ takes the title as the most energetic track on the record - a wild SH101 jam with a brooding bassline and breakbeat elements. Gliding leads glitter above the chaos, creating a deep and textural stomper. Next up is ‘Every Time I See Your Face’. While romantic and dreamy, this is undoubtedly an old-school hip-hop & electro-influenced cut. The kick and bass inject a grooving element, with a vocoder effect on the vocals and atmospheric percussion again inducing that element of space.

On the flip is ‘Power’ - a bassline-driven production that ignites a swift change of pace. Dubby stabs combine with scattered percussion to create this 8-minute roller. The record crescendos with the trancey, techno-inspired ‘Turbulence’. Rhythmic chords bounce around driving percussion and distorted samples to create the record’s apex. Rounding off is title track ‘Lost Connection’ - an ambient, modular piece that uses sequences and layers to create the sensation of drifting before culminating in one final moment of relief as the album draws to a close.

Brian Baker delivers 10 high NRG rave bangers on his first solo release on Fantastic Voyage! The title track "Dora" has been a stand out track in my DJ sets for the past year. It's a 140bpm acid banger that pulls at all the right nostalgic heart strings... Every time I play it, people ask for the track ID. Brian's music is fun, cheeky and energetic. The stripped down productions are perfect for the club, and Brian's willingness to take risks with cheeky ideas for tracks consistently bring smiles to the dance floors. Shawn Carter also came in hot with a euphoric electro remix of Dora to add some extra PLUR to the release. Huge love to Brian on this incredible project, and hope you all can feel some of the good vibes from these awesome tunes :)

Downplay is proud to welcome back Bristol-based producer Fork and Knife to the label for his brand new release “Phonecall”.

‘Phonecall’ is a dazzling mix of garage, grime and synthwave, extrapolating the core energies from each genre to create something unique in it’s own right. Melancholy keys wash over skeletal percussion to produce a mood that immediately transports you into a cyberpunk fantasy.

Second track ‘Tiny Cat’ takes a similar approach, this time melding it’s beguiling ambience with traces of chiptune for a melodic 2-step bubbler that is truly refreshing.

Kicking off the imprint in style, ‘Skin’ employs a well-loved vocal set to a skittering 2-step groove, chopping bars against subtly melodic keys and intricately deployed percussion, before then letting the rhythm hit you in a 4x4 switch-up on the second drop to really raise the roof.

‘Got My Self Together’ mines similar soulful material, pitching a diva vocal sample alongside soothing chords and glittering FX to mesmerizing effect.

‘Hold Me Down’ alters the template again with a summertime jam complete with sensual vocals, bubbling basslines and a classic UKG beat that brings the whole track together beautifully.

Downplay is proud to present ‘Beehive’, the brand new EP from the mysterious producer Kazumi Anzai.

Opening on soft pads and dreamy diva vocals across a skittering 2-step rhythm, ‘Beehive’ quickly makes good on it’s name by dropping a buzzing bassline that cuts through the core of the track, adding a juicy dollop of funk to proceedings.

‘Cinnamon’ drops deeper for a more subtle and soulful affair, with summery keys sprinkled over a bubbling UKG groove and swirling sub-bass.

For the final track, up and coming London-based producer Context flips the title song into much tougher territory, mutating the bassline and beat into a peak-time darkside roller.

Locked On legend @lavonz lays down the 2-step remix for 'Big Smoke', the instrumental as effortless as MK's rhyme schemes. Ec2a further showcases Mushkilla’s writing X flow combo that could well be unrivalled in the game today. 

Rising Yorkshireman @GLOCKTA covers Lovin' U, a touch smoother than the tuff 2-step darkness in his 2020 discography; the subtle dub references and heavenly jazz riff perfectly compliment the transition to instrumental layer for Mushkilla’s increasingly recognisable tone.
