Berlin Hypnotic House XVII - Backwards Move Mix

Fire Away (Original Mix)

Over the past 22 years I have been recording & adding to a mixtape series begun in 1998 in San Francisco. I started putting together selections from the deeper, “late night” end of my record collection that almost never made their way onto regular DJ mixtapes we were all making in the late nineties. Back in the day before Uber, all those after-hours minicab rides in London were sound tracked by African & Caribbean pirate radio stations playing the most incredible Downtempo Soul, R&B, Roots and Gospel. For me, the better the DJ, the slower BPM they would have the guts to play. And here in London even today, generally speaking, the blacker the party, the slower the music (and inevitably, the hotter the vibes)…a simple equation really. This 40 hours worth of music features tracks from every genre and every era……the only thing they all have in common is that they would sound pretty dam good at 8am Sunday morning in the back of a minicab on Coldharbour Lane.

Having been part of the festival for the last couple of years we thought it was time to ask Saoirse to do a mix for us, what she has delivered is a perfect final warm up before we venture back to paradise. From balearic ambience to sunkissed breaks, this 60 odd minutes shows another side to the Irish born DJ’s collection, her Sunset Sounds.

Today, Peak helms the responsibilities of head booker while The Swift takes care of the one-of-a-kind flyer art and bookings of his own, while the pair simultaneously bang out hot tracks every weekend as residents. 

Together they have helped Renate grow from a club in its infancy to the world-renowned underground mecca it has become today, boasting incredible house, techno and disco lineups on a weekly basis, not to mention a series of open-air events and many wild themed parties throughout the year.
