Jackies Music House Session #99 - "Melle Brown"

From playing his dad’s Hammond B3 organ as a child to experimenting with various instruments into his teenage years, it was only natural that Toronto-native Demuir would centre his life around music. As he focused his sights on the DJ world, Demuir developed an eclectic house sound that exudes funky, sexy, and soulful beats, and is consistently recognized and sought by fellow artists and dance music fans around the world.

The man exudes house from every pour. Here we find him in fine form, hitting it out the park alongside fellow Candian house fiend, Toronto Hustle. Enjoy.

Brixton-based Producer/DJ @theonbower is having a busy year. Between launching his own imprint 'Swung Out Records' to showcase his own brand of dusty house and 80s Italo and playing sets at Glasto, Westival and El Dorado, it looks like next year will be much of the same. Keep an eye out for his upcoming parties under both of his event names; Pangaea Disco and Swung Out. He's also the man managing things behind the scenes at the legendary party institution @secretsundaze. 

"Really enjoyed making this mix. Recorded at my studio in Brixton, it's got a bit of everything in it, mostly dance floor focussed covering house, boogie and of course a healthy serving of retro synth sounds, as well as a premiere of the '08 Breakbeat VIP' of my next single titled The Disguise. Mostly new bits in here but have peppered a few favourites and one of my own edits that all invariably make their way into my live sets too. Since 2010, Stefan has been contributing to the global underground with his distinctive style he has helped shape the sound of house music from Atlanta and the US. Bristol-based producer Sean McCabe has amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired releases and reworks for the likes of Local Talk, Z Records, Strictly Rhythm, Room Control, Tribe, Quantize and his own label Good Vibrations Music. Releasing his first tracks in 2003, he has fine-tuned a trademark sound that is effortlessly soulful and definitely house.
 
A quick listen to any of his productions or DJ sets will confirm this emotion-rich aesthetic. Constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions, McCabe admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. 


"I always like to play a mix of styles in a set to keep it interesting and represent the different styles that I like. I selected about 50 tracks that I felt like playing, to give me options, some recently released and some forthcoming. I made up the structure as I went along based on how I felt in the moment. It starts with a blend of soulful songs and funky/jazzy grooves, then delves into deeper driving tracks to build some anticipation, like a crescendo of some sort, then relieve the tension with music that has a resolving feel to it and end with some broken beat and jazzy ear candy. I think this is typical of how I try to programme my mixes. Like a very long chord progression or song structure; set mood, build tension, resolve, home, then repeat. I also like to make sure I don't play too many vocals or dubs/instrumentals in a row. So I try to keep it varied in that respect too." - https://soundcloud.com/seanmccabe

One of Detroit's best kept secrets, Rick Wade has been producing late night tracks and tapping into the essence of deepness since the '90's. Known for their universal appeal and appearing on over 20 different labels worldwide, soulful, timeless grooves
are his signature. Growing up in Buchanan MI, 1 hour outside of Chicago he was influenced by Chicago radio station WBMX and the Salsoul material and local stations that played the likes of Al Green and Isaac Hayes. Rick remembers:

"I've always been into the music first. I loved the way they (WBMX) would blend twosongs together and make it sound like one. I didn't even know what a DJ was back then. I just wanted to blend songs together...When I went to the record store those songs were only available on 12" vinyl, then I needed turntables to play them and then I needed a mixer if I wanted to blend them... At parties I had the records and I had the turntables so I became the DJ almost by default."
