Bassjackers and Tony Junior join forces on this repurposed rendition of Alphaville’s 1984 synth-pop classic ‘Forever Young’.

The lyrics to Alphaville’s original have been recycled a huge number of times, with one of the most notable being Mr. Hudson’s take on the classic melody on Jay-Z’s ‘Young Forever’. This time however, Bassjackers and Tony Junior display Dutch excellence and take a new route by using hardstyle and big room influence to manufacture a new and exciting outlook on the timeless original.

Bassjackers, a producer and DJ duo from The Netherlands, have been turning heads in the industry since the release of their 2011 breakthrough hit ‘Mush Mush’, which was picked up and released by Tiësto and his label Musical Freedom. Aside from this however, the pair convey a unique and refreshing image via their chalk and cheese personas. Marlon Flohr, who is the DJ, is known mostly for his energetic and often wild stage presence, whereas Ralph van Hilst, the producer, is known for being cool, calm and collected.

Tony Junior, who is also Dutch, is one of the most recognisable faces in the industry. This is partly down to the rock and roll appearance he displays – the long hair and tattoos add a certain edge to his aesthetic style. Tony Junior broke on to the scene via a plethora of huge collaborations with the likes of Steve Aoki, Tiësto and Kura. Ever since then, the Dutch selector has never looked back, with massively successful releases on Spinnin’, Dim Mak and Musical Freedom.

Almost a quarter of a century on from its original release, two behemoths of the EDM scene in MATTN and Jaxx & Vega combine to deadly effect as they give Bomfunk MC’s 1999 hit ‘Freestyler’ a mainstage facelift, ready for any festival headline slot around the world! The two seasoned veterans and Smash The House regulars make it look easy as they blend elements of the original effortlessly in to a reimagined arena, where basslines thump and synths crash. It would be easy to lose sight of the original when the differing sounds are eras apart, but the experience of the two producers shines through as they do the seminal hit justice in every way!

MATTN, at just 26 years of age, is fast becoming one of, if not the most, listened to female producers in the EDM scene. Clocking in with almost 1.5m monthly listeners on Spotify alone and collaborations with the biggest and best in Martin Jensen, DJ’s From Mars and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, it is no wonder that MATTN is a name on everyone’s lips. This will be the Belgian selectors 10th single release of the year, an incredible run of top quality releases which has put her at the forefront of the scene. Let’s see what she has in store for 2024.

Jaxx & Vega is another name that needs no introduction in the world of mainstage producers, the German duo have been impressive as of late with their solo work in ‘Revival’ and collaborations in their recent remix of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s release with Akon ‘She Knows’. The Ruhr area natives are true pioneers and torch-carriers for the big room genre, never straying away from the roots of their influence while simultaneously creating unique and original moments with every release. It is this feeling that has kept the duo on top for so long!
