Every fall becomes a lesson, every silence a teacher, until even the smallest glimmer feels infinite.

Dinner Chats is a set of four pieces for acoustic piano and Rhodes. The work grew out of a lively dinner with friends, where I was challenged to turn the evening’s conversation into music. Each movement follows a thread from that night—dogs chasing around the table, the bustle of a concert intermission, watching my daughter play Minecraft, and a discussion about sailing. Together, they capture the spontaneity, playfulness, and unexpected turns of conversation.

I. Beginnings
Opens with curiosity and warmth, echoing the playful chase of our dogs—Hawkings in pursuit on piano, and Heidi trying to break out of the loop. It closes with a gentle nod to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

II. Intermission
A lively snapshot of a concert hall break—people rushing to chat, sip drinks, and hurry back. A playful motif flickers through, like ushers tapping on xylophones.

III. Minecraft
Inspired by watching my daughter play, this movement stacks patterns like musical blocks—celebrating creativity, play, and endless possibility.

IV. Together
Sparked by a sailing conversation, this finale rides waves of wind and water, surges through a brief storm, and ends in triumph—reaching calm waters again.
