The Metalheadz back catalogue features almost every major figure in the history of drum and bass, and is one of the most innovative labels out there, consistently crossing boundaries with its releases since 1994. The labels output continues to showcase a maturing genre of music that displays influences from reggae, hip-hop, house and techno with highly-sophisticated and intricately-produced tracks, contrary to the image of the music that is typically presented by the mass media.

Releasing music from some of the biggest names out there whilst at the same time pushing and letting new talent break through are the reasons why Metalheadz continues to stay at the forefront of electronic music.

The Metalheadz label was also the driving force behind the seminal Sunday Session Club Nights, which achieved legendary status at London's Blue Note club. Today, Metalheadz club nights are often sell outs with the label also regularly hosting stages at some of the biggest festivals across the world.

OPTIV is a name firmly embedded in both the forefront and deep memory of any true fan of drum & bass. He emerged into the scene with the seminal Cause4Concern sound, which made an enduring mark that influenced many of today’s great artists, including Noisia, and helped to mould the tech aesthetic that we –know today. The Optiv moniker erupted into existence a few years after the establishment of Cause4Concern, with the founding of his own label Red Light Records in 2002, an imprint that continues to be influential in both launching the careers of promising artists such as Inward, Hanzo & Randie, Impak as well as putting out high quality audio from established artists such as Tobax, Telekinesis, The Upbeats and Black Sun Empire. This is in addition to running the pioneering C4C Recordings imprint, that’s been committed to pushing forward-thinking tech for close to two decades now.
Over the course of Optiv’s prolific and long-running solo career, he’s released on a significant range of labels, including leading taste-makers such as Virus, Playaz, Blackout, Subtitles, Eatbrain, Hospital, Shogun Audio, Invisible and Dispatch to name just a few. His commitment to a pure analogue sound, inspired by his techno and electro roots, in combination with a stripped aesthetic that requires audio purity, has ensured that his sound remains both timeless and ahead of the pack. With years of experience behind him to apply to the dance, as well as his immaculate sense for freshness, Optiv is a tried and tested artist who continues to make a significant impact on the drum & bass sphere.

Entering into the world of music was almost inevitable for Ruthless MC. Heavily influenced by his Caribbean parents; he was surrounded by the sounds of reggae and soul from birth. As a teen Ruthless discovered Hip Hop, and artists such as ‘Public Enemy’ and ‘Run DMC’. Then in the 90's with the rave scene emerging, Ruthless started heading out to big raves at ‘Dreamscape’, ‘Milwaukkees’ (esp/equinox) whilst being inspired by the tapes of ‘Grooverider’ and ‘Ratty’ on the 'Edge'. Then came a darker more breakbeat side of hardcore, Jungle.

Jammin' around a set of decks with friends, a young Andrew Alleyne favoured picking up the mic instead of the headphones, drawing inspiration from ‘Mad P’ and ‘MC Conrad’. Ruthless MC was born.
The Mid 90's also saw Ruthless honing his MCing skills at local events like ‘Junglejuice’ and eventually becoming resident MC at events such as ‘Flavaunit’, ‘Sounds of the streets’ and ‘Rebirth’, and further afield in Oxford at events like ‘HQ’ and ‘Depth Charge’.

After hearing him at random concept, ‘SP:MC’ asked Ruthless if he'd like a trial at a Hospitality night in London as they were looking for mcs. He was immediately picked up by Hospital Records ‘Chris Goss’ who booked him to play Cardiff soon after. Both events were a huge success. Ruthless was now cemented as one of Hospitality’s MCs of choice. 
Rolling with the Hospital Records collective has seen Ruthless Mc all over the world, from Tokyo to Washington DC. Because of this affiliation and his talent, Ruthless is regularly on the billing for Nottingham and Sheffield’s premier Drum and Bass night Detonate. He is also one of the front men for ‘Jungle drummer vs Dj Fu' playing in front of crowds of up to 6000 people.

Ruthless has a distinctive and powerful voice which lends itself to any environment. From the mightiest rave arenas, to the smallest basement rave. Ruthless’s attitude to performing means that he always finds the balance between MC and DJ, always complimenting the music. Depth, clarity and delivery are paramount. He pushes conscious lyrics through to those that are listening, and brings the vibe and hype like a true showman.


Iv been djing Drum & Bass since 2001.  Since then I have been lucky enough to dj at events with artists like; Pendulum, Chase & Status, Marky, Grooverider, High Contrast, Zinc, Mampi Swift, Logitics, Randall, Bryan G, Eksman, Fearless, Stamina and more.  My style spans from soulful to tear out and what direction i go, nobody knows. THATS WHY I LOVE DNB BABY!
