Following last May’s label kick-off in the form of JSSL’s ‘Fake Facade’ EP, FORMAT Records now invites Dutch prodigy Qindek for its sophomore release, which is backed up with an excellent remix by Swedish techno veteran Pär Grindvik. 

Having already released a slew of high quality cuts in the past few years, Qindek’s definitely no stranger to the realms of deep and fiery techno. His delivery for FORMAT Records kicks off with ‘Pigeon Dance’, an intense and very hypnotic track built around deceivingly playful acid wobbles and a no-nonsense techno groove. Expect things to get nasty on the dancefloor when this one’s dropped.

Pär Grindvik’s rework of ‘Pigeon Dance’ is a slightly heavier affair that rips out the acid bassline from the original while taking things to new heights with its merciless big room techno kick. 

Closing the EP is ‘Everflood’, another original Qindek cut that sees the producer popping in a beefy funk-infused bomb, with several layers of bass stabs and percussion bits creating a track that has ‘peak-time’ written all over it.

With this excellent second release FORMAT Records is set to continue its headstrong view on techno…

The mighty Qindek returns to Wolfskuil for his sophomore hypnotic workout. On this 3 track EP he showcases his unique talent for melodic sounding atonal sequencing (if that makes any sense) and stripped down grooves. In titletrack Modu he stretches his signature sound to almost epic proportions. Over the span of 12 minutes he stretches and bends a seemingly simple idea like rubber without losing a second’s tension. Both Due and Krux are pieces of sophisticated dancefloor DJ tools dripping with atmosphere and depth. Two perfect secret peaktime weapons for those who know.

Acid Pauli - BLD Remixes B 

Acid Pauli’s album BLD dropped last year and was a superb reminder of Martin Gretschmann’s unique place within the electronic music.
Breathing musicality and adventurousness into everything that he does, the album covered a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience.

Following on from the “A” remix package, “B” brings another huge selection of producers into the fray to reinterpret the originals.

First up, Hamburg hero Stimming works over 'Amadou' - flipping the original, into a techy bomb. A thick kick underpins a shuffling, off kilter rhythm and beautifully treated melodics. Stimming’s feel for gently pushing the dancefloor into new places shines through.

'René' is reworked by Roman Flügel, the Ongaku/Klang/Playhouse boss whose influence on the European electronic music scene has been immense. Always willing to experiment, 'René' is the perfect canvas - arpeggiated blips and beeps echo primitive electronic explorations by the likes of Francis Bebey, and a huge subby kick drum take this track into space.

Axel Boman sets to work on 'Jeanne', locking into his signature groovy, tribal approach to working the dancefloor. The Swedish producer adds dubby elements, an irresistible percussion track and disruptive, random sounds to the thick, heady mix.

Dutch wunderkind Satori tackles 'Jorge' - twisting the original into a psychedelic groover that finds room for backwards vocals, marimba-like melodies, fat basslines and shuffling breakbeats.

Lastly, label co-founder Nico Stojan remixes 'Verbos', and finds a way to twist it into an energetic yet deep dancefloor burner.

David Mayer’s career and background is marked by a desire to keep moving and experiencing new perspectives. Having finally settled in Berlin, the German DJ and producer has built up an enviously diverse back catalogue on labels such as Connected Frontline, Objektivity, Gruuv, Audiomatique and Keinemusik. With his first release on Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan’s Ouie label, Mayer brings his trademark groove to the fore once more.

'The Call' is a mid tempo chugger built around a kick, clap and 808 blip, before a more organic groove develops. The slowed down chants and wigged out synth line take the vibe into afro cosmic territory, without losing the original energy.

'Sooner' is a little more urgent - a crisp, forward leaning rhythm and a deep, subby bass lead the way, before another frazzled synthesiser takes us on a melodic walkabout.

'Black Queen' is another example of Mayer’s slick drum programming, keeping things zesty on the dance floor but with acres of space to lose yourself in.

The digital bonus track - 'The Girl With No Name', introduces a sublime kalimba melody and esoteric percussion, sitting nicely within a slo-mo house vibe.

Exclusive David Mayer 'The Call'

David Mayer continues to stir up the electronic music scene with his latest EP 'The Call', a cosmic and tribalistic cut that has already been supported by various renowned DJs. Based in Berlin but musically settled all around the world David Mayer has implemented a characteristic trademark sound on his own over the years, influenced by various visits abroad. Essential parts of the aforementioned 'Mayer-Sound' are his elusive skills to create driving bass lines and pair them with simple sounding but complex cosmic chords and chants. 'The Call' focuses on the latter in the most effective manner. Built around a kick, clap and 808 blip the track introduces its listener to further organic soundscapes throughout the track as the chopped and screwed down vocal enfolds the wigged out synth line to create spheric moments on the dance floor.

David Mayer's EP 'The Call' will be released on August 3rd, 2018 on Ouïe.

When Wolfskuil recording artist Thomas Lauren came to us with his new techno project Qindek, we were instantly intrigued. Qindek sees Thomas moving away from his melodic background into uncharted abstract territories, without losing the warmth and depth we’ve come to know him for.

Three tracks (two originals and one live jam with Digga) are on this EP, each with it’s own distinct character. The titletrack is psychedelic little monster wich received support from Peter van Hoesen and Sandrien in the demostage allready. It’s dark, brooding atmosphere is matched only by the suspense and irie groove, withour ever reaching full climax. It’s counterpart, the bigroom anthem ‘Te Beroerd’, on the flip is a whole different matter. Very powerfull stuff and there is absolutely no way around it’s rave antics and monstrous kickdrum.

Last but definitely not least is the livejam Qindek did with his studio companion Digga. Harder & Faster is a great hypnotic session of the guys with a catchy, almost sweet sounding theme draped in lush sounddesign and pounding grooves.
