Somewhere 2 comes from Slovakian artist Adela Mede, author of the spellbinding tape Szabadság that's easily one of the most astounding things we've heard this year. Guided by the potency of her raw vocals, Adela explores folk tradition through a kaleidoscopic buzz of processed electronics, her ineffable vocals shining through in pure lucidity.

Through this mix, Adela continues her exploration of the voice. Repeating vocals chants feed into haunting moments of dissonance, heightening the innate beauty of the unprocessed song that shimmers beneath.

Julien Dechery & Sundae - Noise In My Head 16/04/14

In the mists, on an overgrown path. Paraphrasing Leoš Janáček - the musical poet of Bohemia. I included one murky impressionistic fragment from his "V mlháh", but otherwise this Czech-centric issue is aimed at the country's late 20th century experimentalism. Roughly 1970-99. Basically, the last 20 years of weakening Soviet grip in liberalizing Czechoslovakia and subsequent decade of newly democratic Czech Republic post-Velvet Revolution. The story that's painfully familiar to me being a fellow Slav and looking (remotely) at similar events unfolding in tragic slow-motion in my native Ukraine.

But politics aside, this is about the music. I got interested in this repertoire about 10 years ago. Following a deep dive into the avant folk of Irena and Vojtěch Havlovi and then contemporary Finders Keepers' excavation of the '70s film scores by Luboš Fišer and Zdeněk Liška. Following the thread with Havlovi I then discovered guitarist Oldřich Janota. Who's a sort of binding agent of Prague's experimental circuit circa late 1980s and on. Including bands Jiná Rychlost Času and Richter Band, jazz vocalists Iva Bittová and Mirka Křivánková, experimental-leaning instrumentalists Jaroslav Kořán and Zdeněk Konopásek. And then there's jazz reedist Jiří Stivín who was another key facilitator. Navigating from prog to avant jazz and collaborating with Pierre Favre, John Surman and Barre Phillips among others. As well as producing aforementioned Křivánková and Hungarian folk siren Márta Sebestyén.

While the overall aesthetics are roughly in line with the trends of the era - including, but not limited to avant jazz, Medieval-tinged folk revivalism, free improv, minimalism, drone, neopsychedelia, ambient, even post-rock - all the above comes out sounding utterly unique. Familiar stylistic signatures rendered oddly out of focus. As if following surreal, dreamlike logic of Czech New Wave films or some haunted, woodsy fairytale. Echoing in the empty halls of Sleeping Beauty's kingdom where the awakening kiss never arrives. For those who are interested and perhaps willing to venture further the tracklist is here:

As a spezial Finders Keepers / Dead-Cert / Pre-Cert Hallowe'en treat here's an upload of the medium-rare Applehead mix-tape made from ten-tons of psuedo giallo witchy wax and global glum-rock. Originally released as 69 red cassettes in clamshell cases at a time when people who spent all their money on (physical)music still drove cars with built-in cassette players. Enjoy / Endure at will!

Influenced by New Wave, Italo Disco and Minimal Synth Music, @AlexanderArpeggio aka spAceLex started DJing in 2002. The Berlin-based producer builds hypnotic stories where cosmic music, wave and obscure disco blend with contemporary electronics to form something truly unique. With his label @Mond-Musik he founded a home for like-minded compositions in 2014, re-releasing and re-editing obscure and much sighed-for German productions from the late 70s to the early 80s, accompanied by edits, remixes and cover versions. The proceeds in turn benefit new and upcoming artists on the sublabel @EineWelt. Aiming to create a community for artists with different approaches on dance music, the label so far published two small compilations offering a beautiful selection of submerged electronic acts.

As part of his residency at Berlin club Sameheads, Alexander curates the bi-monthly Club Cosmic event. Together with Tom Bolas (Dancing for Mental Health), he created another new party series called Cosmic Service, delivering both electronic and eclectic disco music.

In addition to various edits for his own labels, he recently released the Streng geheim EP on Florian Stöffelbauer aka Heap's Vienna-based label Neubau. Teaming up with Cid Hohner, Alexander is part of slow acid and industrial project @AufgangB, performing analogue live sets and having released the B-Ware EP in 2015, including a remix by Tolouse Low Trax. With his other live project with Cid called OTTO (@OTTO-inoffizielle-Seite), he already released two EPs, the third one, "Stimmungen", following this summer via Orgaton Records.

For TISSUE, Alexander Arpeggio masterfully deployed all his skills to deliver a mix that carries the listener to an evocative journey of pulsing drum machines and fuzzy rythms. An inspired tune ready to become your instant favourite.
